I am having a slight problem wth my woods and broadheads. I am right handed and shooting a 125 or 145 grain field point and they hit dead on. I switch to my 145 grain brodhead and it starts shooting left like it's a stiff spine. How can this be when the field points are hitting right on and lighter weight?...Thanks

Field points can hide incorrect spine to a large degree; broadheads can show-up a weak spine that was otherwise hidden. Can you tell us more about your set-up?

Draw length around 27 1/2 pulling 57 at 28 shafts are 60-65 spine and cut 29 1/4 3 fletch with 5" feathers

It might not have recovered yet. Even though it is left, it might be weak spine. Can you try 125 gr. broadhead? I find that broadheads make some of my arrows shoot like there weak, because the heads stick out farther. Its like a longer arrow.

This is why I always tune my arrows with broadheads installed.. They show exactly what is happening...

Right handed shooter with fletched arrows hitting left equals a STIFF arrow.. No doubt at all.  

You need a heavier broadhead or start over with longer shafts or increase the brace height of your bow... And then tune again..

I was thinking stiff shaft but with the lighter field points hitting right on and flying good has me confused. I know doesn't take much..lol I am shootin 20 yards so I hope that is has recovered by then. I will increase the brace height a little and see what happens thanks.

Field point can shoot well to the eye and be too stiff or weak.  How about a bare shaft?  You could also be over stiff and getting a kick off the riser with the 125's.  That would make them shoot ok with FP's, but not BH's.

With what you said about hitting well with the field points, you have another issue. Dont buy into that {gotta be such and such} There are many variasions.  If its hitting the nock on the riser, it will take alot longer to stabalize. And can also be weak. Also check alighnment of your broadheads. A crooked broadhead will never fly right. Leave us know what you find.

Is it a real longbow, or a modern deflex-reflex hybrid, or a recurve? Is the shelf centre-cut? Are you using a low-stretch string or Dacron? I'm leaning toward your arrows being too weak.

What type of broadheads are you using????

In the old days we used to experience 'wind/wing planing' where the BH would actually act like an airplane wing and cause the arrow to deflect.

It was a very common problem with 2 blade BH if I remember correctly.....

It's a recurve cut 1/8 past center with fast flight string..using snuffers..I think I have figured the problem out..I hate to admit this but when I was shooting my broadheads I was getting my head over to far a buddy of mine was watching me shoot both arrows and noticed this. It had me worried as I have had this set up for a couple of years and couldn't figure out what had happened.. I feel really stupid now..thanks guys for helping and one thing I did do was raise my brace height a 1/4 inch

Just to run a formula past you that I use, told me by Danny Rowan:

Your actual draw weight plus five: ~55.5 + 5 = 60.5

Plus five if using low-stretch string: 60.5 + 5 = 65.5

Plus five if cut past centre: 65.5 + 5 = 70.5

Plus five for every inch of arrow over 28": 70.5 + 7.5 = 78

Plus five if using tips over 160 grains: Not applicable, remains 78

So, I'd be looking at getting shafts that are 75/80#.

A lot of fellows won't like what I've got to say, buy I honestly believe that with a modern, centre-cut recurve, there is almost no such thing as too stiff, but there is easily such a thing as too weak. Out of my Black Widow PCHx, shooting 69.5# at 29.5", I cannot tell the difference between 95/100# shafts (which the formula recommends for the 160 grain broadheads I use) and 105/110# shafts. These latter are for my 83# at 29" Schafer Silvertip, but work just as well out of the lighter bow. The sow that I shot through didn't realise that the arrow was too stiff. Too weak, on the other hand, and those arrows are all over the place.
