Hi all I have got some Snuffers and Woodsmans that I really want to use this year! but cant seem to get them sharp at all (TRIED EVERYTHING) just not the greatest sharpner, Is any body willing to sharpen them for me I will pay for shipping and also pay you to sharpen them please let me know THANKS Chas!!!

with the woodsmans i had i used a file 2 blades at a time, it was a lot of work, but got em sharp.. I shoot 2 blades now, i can get them sharp quicker and thats one of the reasons i switched

When I started sharpening woodsmen i found they would be getting sharp, then dull again.  I was using to much pressure.  Try laying off on the pressure on both the files and stones.  Then if you can't get it shoot me a PM and I'll give you my address.  I think in the long run you'll be happier if you can master it yourself.

The key to sharpening, be it a broadhead or a knife, is raising a burr and grinding it off.  

With the 3 blade heads, you're going to be doing two edges at once.  Lay your file on on the broadhead (or the broadhead on the file) so it's flush with 2 blades. File away till you can feel a burr on the opposite side of the two blades,  It doesn't need to be a HUGE burr, as long as your fingernail catches it, you're good.  At this point, rotate the head 120 degrees and start the burr raising process again.  

What you want to do is get a burr on all 6 sides of the cutting surface, and then grind it off.  With the 3 blade heads, as soon as you rotate it, you're going to be grinding off one of the burrs you just raised.  Pay attention and make sure that you do get 6 burrs raised.

Once this is done, make a series of passes on each side with lighter pressure till there's no burr left on any of the blades.  I like to start this out with say 5 passes per side, then 4, then 3, ect ect; rotating the head so each side gets the same number of passes; 5 on one side, five on the second side, five on the third side.  

At this point, you could use a stone and repeat the last bit (the 5, 4, 3....bit). This will polish up the edge and the head should be seriously sharp.  

So, the Cliffs notes version:  get 6 burrs, grind them all off, have no burrs left at the end, and then polish it a bit.

Real easy way to get a 3 blade sharp.  Fits in a pocket so you can touch up in the field.  You can take a out of the pack woodsman and put a hunting edge on it in minutes. I use a file and leather for two blades but this is the ticket for 3 blade.

Yes, less pressure is the key to sharpening when using files.

Hows it goin Chaz ,, would really like to help ya out, but I've got barely enough time to do em myself these days ,, do yourself a favor & get some 150 grn 4 blade Stingers & forget all of the frustration, fly great, easy to sharpen & put alot of blood on the ground, Oh yeah, and much Quieter ...
