Anyone ever use those ones that are leather and look like arrowheads? They have a hole in them that you pull the point through and it snugs it on the string? Semms simple but how good are they? Anyone use them<><

They work fine.  I just went to the craft store with my wife and bought a bag of the yarn balls that people make animals and stuff out of and they work better than the rubber ones any day.  I think the cost $1.50 for 9 pair!

I highly reccomend either yarn or fur. The ruber (spider legs) are quite good but only if you trim them down to about the size of a golf ball (yes, that small) but to me they don't look so good on a trad bow, so I never use them anymore - just my feeling (idiosyncrasy) - LOL - if "looks" doesn't bother you, have at it and I think you'll be pleased with those. I'll keep using fur and/or wool.

The Navajo wool silencers that Jim Neaves at Centaur Archery sells are the best I've found. They really quiet a bow.

beaver balls worked really good on an old bear recurve i have.my black widow longbow wears woolie whispers and is quiet as a church mouse.i think fur looks the best on trad bows.i tried the spider string silecers black widow gave me,but they were not as quiet as the woolies.they didn't look as good either.good luck with your choice,steve

I have used a lot of different ones and to me the rubber spider legs work best. the wool and fur catch burs in the area I hunt. the black widow spiders look nice on a BW but IMO not a quite.

I use pieces of leather boot lace that I have soaked in Pitch Blend or SnoSeal.  Cut them in pieces about 1 to 1.5 inches long and insert them in the string.  They work quite well and the cost is about right, too.  Sometimes I serve them in place, sometimes not.

I'm with Snag, the Centaur silencers have worked the best for me.

Thanks Guys. I love and use Bow hush and IMO its the best LOL. But I really wanted to know is anyone ises or ever used the leather one. I want to maybe use them on my 50 grizz and other old bear bows. but thank you all for your input. I may just cut some out of some moose leather shell has>>>SHHHH dont tell her she will skin me alive .........REALLY!      :eek:

In an Alaskan downpour all they needed to be dry was a strum or two on the string.

The leather ones are interesting though.  Good stuff...

One of my old bows came with them... they didn't seem to work very well.

I make my own from wool yarn I got at the local craft store. 5 bucks and I'll never run out.....Randy

I do the same, Randy. Picked up some dark tri-colored yarn and make my own. Cheap, easy, and effective.

I usually use rubber spider legs on my bows. They work quit well. Lately I have experimented with wool silences. On a late model Super K I tried both types of silencers. The spider legs were a little quieter.  
I'll stick with them for now.

One thing I have noticed. If the string is a little to long and you really have to twist it up to get your brace height it seems to me that it makes the bow noisier. That is noisier than a string at the same brace height with less twist in it. Anyone else notice this? Or is my hearing playing tricks on me.   Jim
