Looking to head back out to Ohio this year for some rut hunting.

What time will put me in the best action?I've been hearing the first week of November. Will probably be heading to Guernsey county.

What is the weather like during said time frame? When I was out there last year for shotgun you guys had everything from snow rain sun clouds.

That's a good time and the weather is usually mild but be prepared for anything. Cold rain is your enemy that time of year.

Yep...cold rain is the pits!! 1st. week of nov. should be good though ---hoping    that's when I'm taking vacation too.!  :jumper:

Usually not too cold yet.....

I've seen 70 degrees on Nov 3rd, but it's more likely you'll be seeing 20's/30's overnight and 40's/50's late in the day.  Things obviously will slow down if it warms up but that week or the next should be pretty good. It always seemed to me the so-called peak of the rut was later into the 2nd week but you'll still see plenty of bucks roaming around early in November. I don't seem to mind the rain so much as I do if the wind picks up.  It's possible to have snow on the ground then but not likely and if it does snow, it probably won't stay around for very long. GOOD LUCK, Andy

Preatty much what everyone one else said. Always seams to rain oo opening day. At least in the area I live. Guernsey is a good county. Get a hold of me before your trip and I'll get you  some weather reports. The end of October is a really good time to rattle and such for the bucks are really on the move. Granted the further south you go things seem to be later. Can't beat the fall colors either. Good luck!

Nov 1-Nov 14, can't go wrong. 30's 40's great time to be in the woods anywhere in the state.  Guernsey county is very good.

That is when the action starts turning on. I have had my best luck that week right after rain and cold front comes in. The colder the better!!

I think everyone has hit the weather just right. Who knows what it will be!!!!! But if you get to Guernsey, get in touch and we'll have you over to our camp one day. We are in Harrison.

We will be having our Ohio trad deer hunt that first weekend in November or there-abouts. I have to do a bit more thinking before I post the official dates. Actually, I think I'll post up the dates and get the thread going here on PowWow now.

I know if you hunt early you can get eaten alive by chiggers.

I agree with most expecially the chiggers, anytime in November, but L ike Raven Claw, I look forward to the cold Nov Rain (Rut Rain) the only bad part of November in Ohio is when you have to work.

Never had a chigger till I went to Arkansas.
