I often see in the classifieds recurves classed as 50'  style, or 60's style, etc.
Could someone please tell me the characteristics of different vintages of recurve bows?

Thanks in advance.

reddogge

50s style recurves were rather plain and simple usually with plain maple risers.  60s recurves started to exhibit exotic woods like rosewood, bubinga, shedua, and designs with small horns in the risers.  There wasn't much difference in the early 70s outside of the exotic woods were dissappearing and new composite woods like "actionwood" started to appear.  The designs were similar to 60s bows.

I'm short of time or I'd include some photos.  Perhaps later today.  I realize I oversimplified the explanation.

A 50's style recurve is a slim, light riser bow like the 1957 Bear Kodiak. The riser is similar to a long bow.

In the '60's,bows started to get a more refined, pistol grip and more mass in the risers.

Typical early 50's

These are '59 to '63

I don't collect past '63 maybe others can post pics?

Nice examples, Bjorn. I really see how the risers have more mass and "pretty up".

Thanks.
