I'm thinking about another longbow too, and if I had some money...I'd buy one. lol

I hunted with an Assenheimer recurve for years and liked it alot.  2 years ago I took the plunge and got a Toelke Whip.  Man what a difference.  It is much lighter and shoots smoother than my recurve.  I only wish I had made the plunge sooner.  I know there are some who say there is a "learning curve" when switching but for me the Whip is easier and more comfortable to shoot than my Assenheimer.  I was lucky enough to christen the bow last fall with a small buck.  Pass through shot and the buck was dead within 60yds.  I'm a total longbow convert.  

The advice to go to an archery rendezvous is what I just recently did at the end of last month. The Bowyers are more than happy to let you try out whatever type bow you want. I shot different Trad. R/D bows all day on that Friday. I got real lucky and ended up with a bow off of the blanket sales they had each day at 5pm.

I love Longbows

i absolutely love my long bows.  Black widow and 21 century.  No hand shock and they are killing machines (when I do my part).

You should try a Wes Wallace if you want a more traditional looking longbow.They are smooth and fast.

Thinking about a longbow; that's a great thought.

The best would be to go someplace where you could try several different makes and styles, or buy and swap thru the classifieds here.

A mild deflex/reflex would be a good place to start, IMO.  Keep the draw weight reasonable and feed it some good wood arrows.
