Does anyone else have any issues with their serving wearing through just below the nock point?  It would seem to be the nock causing this escessive wear.  This is the second time the serving has unraveled in about 3 months.  Any ideas how to correct this or is this somewhat normal?  Thanks

Do you use the metal knocks, how far from the knock is it wearing, did you serve the string yourself, does you glove finger or tab have a rough spot in it,and does the string hit your arm guard hard and leave a long mark?

What type of serving are you using? Are your nocks too tight?

Buckeye Trad Hunter

If your nocks were too tight and you fild them it can make the edges of your nocks sharp which will actually cut the serving.  I found this out through first hand experience  :D  .

On the latest bow I bought, the serving was wearing and sometimes I would start to shoot an arrow and it would fall off the string.

I had just about decided to tighten up the nocks, but then I thought they would be too tight when I got a new string, so maybe I should just replace the serving instead.

When I looked at the serving, I wondered if I could just swap the direction of the string instead, which would put a different part of the serving under my arrow nocks.  I tried it, and the bottom string loop was big enough to fit over the top limb, and there was still serving where I needed to nock the arrow.  It seems to work fine, and now I can get twice the life out of the old serving.

I don't think this would work with most strings, as the bottom loop would be too small or the serving wouldn't be in the right place if you swapped ends.  But it works nicely enough that I might purposely make my strings so the ends can be swapped when I make my own strings.

Anyone see any downside to this?

I see a downside.  If your serving is broken or badly worn, you serving can move around causing your nocking point to move.  If it does fail, you and I both know it will be at the worst possible time...

Re-serving is no big deal.

I do use metal nocks and I nock my arrow below the metal nock.  I am almost wondering if there are some rough spots on my Beman MFX nocks.  the spot that continually wears is about 3/16" to 1/4" below the nocking point.  Maybe I ought to look into that.
