I've not seen any zebra wood in person. Is the dark part of the grain brown or black? Trying to figure out if zebra wood limb veneers would look good with either a gaboon or macassar ebony riser.

Dark part is black (on the veneers I have had). Was going to order my next bow with macassar ebony riser and zebrawood limbs stained to match. I think it would be a good combo.

BigJim

I have never seen zeebrawood with black stripes. I bet it just looks black under your glass Dog. I will tell you that a gaboon or macassar stripe in a zebra riser looks exceptional!.

I'm kinda torn between the macassar and the jet-black gaboon. At any rate, great minds, etc...  :D

If Zebrawood does not have black in it, it has to be REALLY close to black.  I used to make my compound grips from zebrawood, and they sure looked like black stripes to me.

I've noticed the dark brown grain in english walnut tends to appear darker, or black, as finish is added...but I use a lot of tung oil, which can darken wood.

The stripes in mine are dark brown at the darkest, looks black from a distance.

RocketDog

I have zebrawood limbs on a macassar ebony riser and on a black phenolic riser -- the dark risers make the zebra grain look black.  Zebrawood is a good choice with many woods if it is cut to show off the grain.

Recently saw a Vermilion River longbow with a zebrawood riser and macassar limb veneers -- exceptionally pretty!

This is one (with another) I made with zebrawood and black walnut/hickory riser. It looks very dark brown to me.

Either combo would look great with zebrawood. IMO

As in flat, or slab, sawn rather than quartersawn...or do those terms just apply to gun stock blanks?
