One suggestion is to watch a few auction sites for old Stetson and other hats.  Old pork pie hats tend to have short brims.  Plus, if the price is right, you can trim one down without worrying about ruining an expensive hat.

I've owned more felt Fedoras that I can remember, from hunting retailer cheapies to high-end Stetson and Borsalinos.  But for the money, I've never owned a better hat than my Akubras.  Ths company has a long history of quality and functionality, made in Australia. Their sweat bands are really unique and fit the head perfectly.   The wild hare felt is thick enough to be rugged but thin and "buttery" enough to flex in heavy winds so your hat doesn't fly off.  I wear a "Bushman" which has a big brim, BUT you can flip the brim up for string clearance.  I can't say enough about those Akubras.

This is great now I have alot of choice's and ideas. One thing I have found important to me is to have a bill I don't have to move or flip up. I always try to have the sun at my back when hunting but the animals never read the script. Most of the time I just rotate my ball cap around but the sun can make some shoots tough. I also like the small brim because I can hide eye movement. Thanks agian Jim.

when you get a chance? I wanted to get one at Denton Hill but the guys sold out before I could reserve one. Now I hear they have more colors to pick from. I would like the non-camo for walkking around town and going to bow shoots, but the real advantage is I hunt in very thick cover and if I wear a ball-cap with a regular bill I don't see limbs and sticks as well and offten get poked in the eye as I'm turning my head looking for shed antlers or what-ever. I'm with Bill on the size thing, Hats I can find, one that fits is another thing. That's why I bought the one from Prairie Traditions....it fit!!!  

Does anybody have any pics of the hats that are found at The Nocking Point? Not only could I not find them on the website, but there are no pictures of any of the products.

Sort of looks like a wanted poster doesn't it?  I wonder what would happen if we posted a few copies at rest stops along the interstate highways??  I'm willing to do my share:^)

I had posted the hats that the Wensel Brothers sell, but they deleted it. I guess because I said how much they cost. Go figure

I bought a Mossy Oak boonie style hat about seven years ago, it finally decomposed and had to be buried behind the seat of my truck this year.

I went to a military surplus dealer and bought one of the " digi-cam " boonies,

I like em because the brim of the hat will bend back if the string pushes against it. I've gotten used to shooting with it... I really like mine.

I like the military issue boony hats, both old style and new.  The older ones have a shorter brim, but the new Marpat design is pretty cool also.  Neither should have a problem with being able to pull string into brim and bending alittle.  This is how I shoot with one, or I just sit it back on my head a little further.

Did you mean hats or caps? I took it you were looking for a short brimmed hat.

The "Lid" is the hat Big Jim had at the AL shoots last year. I bought one for me, my son, and a buddy. We love 'em.

In cold weather you just pull a fleece or wool toboggan over it and you are good to go...at least where 20 F is cold!

Another vote for the filsons. I wear the original style for 16 years kept me dry and shaded.
