"I love you Daddy".......My son Cade while stump shooting  3/19/06

The bow I used on the Moose John hunt I had Dick Robertson make for that trip and it was a 68# longbow shooting 800 gr. laminated birch arrows with a Magnus 160 gr. head, the sask bear hunt I was shooting a Thunderstick 3 by Jim Reynolds @ 70 lbs. and a heavy carbon shaft (I am a wood shooter) but I lost a bet with a friend that is if outshot me while practicing I would shoot his carbons and if not he would shoot wood, well I lost!  they were tipped with 160 gr Snuffers,  then all the whitetails except the stonehead selfbow spike  were taken with a 53 lb Thunderstick 3 and either bear greenies or snuffers, on laminated birch shafts @ near 700 gr., the selfbow is a 55 lb osage stave I got from Mike Yancey here on the board that I somehow turned into a useable tool, and the heads were knapped by friend Billy Berger of GA.  Thanks for all the replies it has been fun stirring up old memories.

QuoteCant wait to go back to the Moose John, I thought when I went the first time it would be a once in a lifetime trip but after being there I know that is not the case! Spectaculiar trip but in saying that a fella darn sure wants some wilderness skills a guy could get in a bad way quick up there if not careful! Guess that is one of the reasons I loved it so much! True Wilderness!
Quint, you're so right about getting in a bad way quick if you're not careful. The Alaska bush is an unforgiving land that doesn't tolerate mistakes. I floated the Moose John years ago when Jay Massey operated it, one of the highlights of my bowhunting career.

Great pictures, thanks for the look back.

Very cool, thanks for sharing!!! What did the noggin on that bear tape out at?
To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

bohuntr the skull measured 21 11/
16ths, Although I never recorded it or any other animal except for an elk years ago, not that I am opposed to it I just dont bother with the reord keeping system much but usually score deer and elk and antelope just for my own curiosity!  Nonetheless he was a true bear of a lifetime!

You know Ron, I was thinking about our conversation we had on the phone before I went to the Moose John,  And something stuck in my mind when we chatted about handguns and you told me to have one for river Pirates if nothing else!  After being there I can see what you meant there are some rough looking characters on the lower river huh?  Anyone that is going or wants to go on that trip has to be very honest with themselves as far as their wilderness skills because up there you just may depend on them to save your life!
