I am going in Tuesday for Neurosurgery on my neck.  I have been losing range of motion and strength in my right arm and an MRI indicated bone spurs and a disc issue were messing up the nerves communication with my arm and shoulder muscles.

Having followed the recent thread on neck repairs/surgery I was encouraged so I had a consult and the doc (great reputation in this area) felt very positive about the prognosis.  At 57 years old, I am not ready to hang it up.

I haven't been able to shoot for 6 weeks so I am going in with a positive attitude and hope to be back for the archery opener this fall.

Wish me luck guys, I will post on how it went for those here that are running into this type of issue.

Bill - I had three vertabra seperated, cleaned up and fused with a metal strip in my lower neck about four months ago;  Had lost most of the function in my left arm;  now have about 3/4th of the mobility back - - still not fixed, but getting there.  Getting it all back takes time, but it'll happen.  Still can't shoot my bow, but I'm closer . . Good Luck Bill! Lots of miles left at 57, don't even start thinking about slowing down until you reverse those numbers. Here's hoping the surgery goes well, and you are back to flinging arrows full time by the season opener.

Thanks guys.  You don't know how much the positive support means to me!

Bill, I'm 56 and my surgery Tuesday will be either my 13th or 14th. I feel good and looking to logging a lot of miles in the woods and shooting hundreds of thousands of shots. You'll do fine and be back at it before you know it!

Best of luck.  Once you are ready to pick it back up, give me a shout and maybe we can shoot some.

Stay strong my friend and don't let it put you down.  Set some goals to accomplish after the operation and post them where you can't ignore them.  No doubt, no fear, just do it.  Hope you will be back shooting real soon.

Have similiar issues although no surgery yet.  Still getting injections and works for a while.  I'm 57 as well and will have to do the same thing as you pretty soon.

Best of luck.

good luck with your surgery, it takes time to heal..looks like you will have a few months of physical therapy, hope you and Owl both have fast and complete recoveries.
