Just a general question or two about the 200gr grizzely's... I was looking at them and wanted to order em to try.....

They are the new one's with the 25 degree taper,so I don't have to reset the taper?

So I can just use them on my KME broadhead sharpener?

And is it sharpening them the same way as a 2sided except I would just "touch" the non blade side to remove the bevel?....

They do have the 25 degree bevel but the KME broadhead sharpener is more than that,maybe 30 degrees.The Grizzly is also over 3" long so you need a wide stone.I think Ron usually recomends the knife sharpener for them.Having said that,I have been sharpening the Grizzlies using the Broadhead sharpener and a 3"X8" DMT diamond stone and it is working well but there is a slight compound edge like on most knives.It would be a good idea to talk to Ron.

You can buy them sharpened from Ron at KME.  Totally worth the money.  They are scary sharp.

Theres definitely a trick to sharpening them but with a good file and stone anyone can do it. The trick is to file till you get that wire edge and then stone and strop it off. There was a great tutorial on here last year that I learned from. It was a video and the guy was poolside smoking a big cigar, think he was from california but not sure. I just tried searching for it and couldnt find it.

There are two other parts that follow.  I think Kingwouldbe was his handle on here.  That guy has killed A LOT of stuff with those Grizzlies. You should have no problem sharpening the old EL Grandes with a KME knife sharpener, once the bevel is set.  Just finish the non-beveled edge with a fine file/stone and a piece of cardboard.

Ron at KME isn't sharpening broadheads right now (I know tried to get some a couple weeks ago). He has new equipment and hasn't built new jigs for it.

For the initial edge I used a belt sander and then my KME sharpener or the Alaska Bowhunting sharpening wheels to sharpen my 200gr El Grandes. Once sharpened the first time they resharper much quicker. Takes some time the first time. Don;'t wait until the last couple days if they are new out of the package.

Yes darb that is the video. His method works very well. I got good results using his method and the biggest Kobalt (lowes brand) file i could find The curved tooth files were tough to find local.

yes...A Bowyer are ready in a few minutes. They are a lot more expensive so you can pay for better finish work

You could use the KME but the problem most have sharpening the Grizzly is keeping the edge even using files.  Once you learn to do it, sharpening them is simple.  The best technique by far is to learn the method Dave shows in the video above or the method Doc Ashby uses in his video.  They are both basically the same.

IMO if you can't get the Grizzly truly sharp you're better off using a different head because you won't be happy with them.  If you can, they are fantastic.
