STIKNSTRINGBOW

I had a thread on here last year about my Elk hunt in the Bear River unit in SW Washington.
It was a good season, even though I left all the elk there, I saw quite a few, (78 Elk in 6 days of hunting) had a couple close encounters.( 1 at 16 feet, another at 20 yards)
I met a couple of other guys that seemed to be good sports.
I learned a little about hunting Roosevelt Elk, and found out that I should bring my fishing rod along to catch Salmon out of the Naselle River, and "planter Trout" out of the lakes I plan on camping near (unless I hunt alone again) during any breaks from hunting I wish to make.
Anyone interested in joining me is welcome, but I am not sure at this time how many days I will get to hunt, but if there is interest, I will set up a camp at the lake to get together...

I went down to area for the fourth of July weekend with the family, the fish in the lake were pretty small, 8-10 inches, but the Fly-fishermen were having fun !

Very neat.  Is it over the counter tags or is it a lottery System? Looks like a beautiful place.

I plan on a few more scouting trips before season, and am trying to talk a buddy into bringing his boat down so we can hunt Long Island, the states only "Archery only" unit, and home to the highest density of black bears per square mile, with Elk and Deer also.

Washington State is "over the counter", you select what side of the stae, and what weapon choice.

Also, as far as beautiful...
I got lucky and got the pictures of the elk in the open, most of the area is thick and brushy, The area I hunt is all walk-in, as the roads into area are gated.
The area I camp in has more roaded access, and therefore a higher harvest (more hunters too)
Nearby is the Willapa Hills unit, open to 3 point or better Bull only, that is also not very crowded.

Stiknstringbow,
What month/days do you have planned? In checking the WA F&G site it looks like over the counter and non-resident is ok for tags, is that your take? PM me if you want, thanks this is a great opportunity and depending on time frame it would be fantastic to join in.
Regard's,

I will be back out there for the opening weekend or maybe even a full week hunting and then hunting close to home after that.  I will see you up there if you are camped at the lake.

If you hunt Long Island be sure you have a tide book so you'll know when high tide is otherwise it can be a bit tough to leave across the mud flats at low tide.

The early season runs Sept. 7th-19th, I plan on being there for Labor Day Weekend, Probably go up August 31st to set camp, spend the weekend camping with my family/scouting/ My daughters first day of school is the 7th,  :banghead:   so I will be home until the afternoon, then I guess it all depends on what I can get off of work, I will be there any chance I can get until the 19th.
If there are guys there I will probably leave the camp set up until the 20th, or everybody leaves....

Do you have anything close to a GPS location or an idea of a map grid?  I would really love to get a chance to hunt in that area with you guys.

Just Google Earth, Naselle, Washington.
The Wiilams Creek unit is north of Hwy 4, east of 101.
The Bear River Unit is (mostly) surrounded by hwy 101, 401, and 4.
Long Island is,... well,.. Long Island.
The Willapa Hills are a litte further east.
The lake itself is part of "Western Lakes Recreation Area" near the Naselle youth camp.
I will PM any further information to you, as I have upset some viewers by openly sharing information via the internet.
