My girlfriend had to move there for her job...
I'm sure there is some great hunting in the area.
I take my bow everywhere. Just wondering if anybody is from the area or knows of some good places?

You can't shoot anything at Whitetail World, but I was very impressed with this museum. I copy/pasted this description:

Whitetail World -- Clarksville, take exit 58 off I-40, go up the hill, turn right on the first street after the Best Western, 479-754-8620. This is a store and museum. The store carries hunting books and videos, knives, boots, cammies, and the like. The attatched museum is an amazing collection of replica mounts of what must be all the record whitetail deer for every state in the U.S.; about sixty or seventy in all. If you happen to be cruising past Clarksville on I-40, Whitetail World's museum is a good opportunity to stretch your legs for a half-hour and see some things you won't see anywhere else. Even nonhunters will be impressed.

Bama, I just read your post again & see you're already there & for the long-term. I thought you were just passing through. You probably already know all about Whitetail World & are looking for the real thing. Clint

Oh no, I still live in Alabama. It's a really long drive. Thought I might throw some hunting in while i'm there. See, "hunting" is over "girlfriend" on my totem pole.

I'll just be visiting there a few times.

If I were moving to Russellville, Arkansas, I'd be really excited about the chance (even though it's a slim chance) to take a black bear. Russellville is very close to the highest producing areas. I say slim chance because there are no dogs or baiting allowed. Still, just to be able to scout and pattern bears while carrying a tag is more than I'll ever be able to do here in Missouri. I can't complain about the deer or thurkey hunting though. Good luck!

There's a big archery-only management area just outside of town, on the south side of the river. It's planted in crops for waterfowl, and full of big deer, too. Strictly regulated- make sure you read all the rules.

I used to work in Russellville a lot, and hunted that area several times.

Well, I live about 5 minutes from Russellville.  The management area Don is talking about is Holla Bend.  It used to be THE PLACE to bowhunt.  Now, it is overhunted and the crops are not planted like they used to be, there are some, just not as much.  There are still a couple biggens taken every year or two, but not enough to make me hunt there.  There is a treestand in almost every tree that will hold one up.  I have many other places to hunt that produce good deer without all of the pressure from other hunters.

As far as the totum pole is concerned, it took a while for my wife to realize that I am not going to be around much during bow season.  It is not that she does not rank as high as hunting, but that season is only here for a short while and I still see her after dark and when it is raining lol. That may be why she started hunting...    :dunno:     And it really took a while for her to understand that it was not my fault that she was born during the rut, therefore I would be hunting on her birthday (the week I take out of state).  I heard about that for a while...     :deadhorse:    But I still hunt the rut...

If you have any questions about the area just shoot me a PM.

I wonder if your girl friend could get my wife a job in Arkansas. I think she would like that part of the country.

I am pretty sure that Dave Lay is from Russellville.  Dave is a heck of a nice guy and may be able to point you in the right direction.  Hopefully he will chime in here.
