G'day lads,

Well I thought I put up some pics of my boy Samuel's new, revamped Huntsman recurve, they are made right here in aussie by a very outstanding but humble bowyer...not to mention first class hunter.

This bow has a small story with it so I thought I'd share somewhat...

About a year and a bit ago I was at my good mate's place (Mark Kimber) whilst on leave from working in Baghdad, Iraq. I mentioned to Mark how I longed and missed my bow whilst on rotation at work. I had no room to shoot a bow due to the conditions we lived in, nor the time really ....but I was thinking about taking back one of my Black Widow T/D's just so I could draw it in my room and keep my shoulder and back muscles in tune at the very least.

Well... Mark being the good lad that he is offered me a old 2nd had riser and a very rough set of limbs that some 'would be, if he could be' Traditional bowhunter blew up upon a Dry firing mistake.

We both agreed that traveling through customs in the middle east would not be a good idea with one of my costly Black Widows... so this 2nd hander would be the way to go... the reason being is if some towl head, sand loven camel jock made the dicision he wanted to be 'Robin Hood' .... I would only be parted with a very cheap and roughed out curve.... not one of my BW's.

So... away I went again... off to work on the mean streets of Baghdad, take down huntsman in my bag and one single arrow for the purpose of acting as my check draw. I then was transfered to Afghanistan, where the bow came with me also.

The bow surved it's duty well and I drew it often as I could and had some raised eyebrows when doing my daily drawing routine... lads even joked about taking it on the road incase we had troubles with insurgents.... I still think my M4 and 10 magazines suited that roll better!

Then I finished up working away as a gunslinger and looked for a real job... but upon my return I asked Samuel if he'd like a new compound to replace his older one that he grew out of or.... I could get Mark to make up a set of lighter limbs and jazz up the riser like new.

Sam chose the new revamped Huntsman. And so... here it is.... a very well traveled recurve that I hope it'll serve him as well as it served me.

A fitting name I thought up to christen his new curve... "Stepping Stone"....as thats what this bow has seemed to do....and I hope it shoots as well as it looks!

We just went with Black glass as a cheaper option as over time I'm sure the boy will out grow these limbs.

Look a lot like santos rosewood, whatever it is its fine looking!Love the tips.

yup he does make a nice bow there al i hope your boy has fun with it and we need pics of him shooting it bro.  

The timber is an aussie timber called "Burdekin Plum" and yes your right Jeff... Mar sure does make a nice bow.... plenty of 'em in your neck of the woods too....

I'd say that I haven't seen a BW that looked any better than this bow.

Really nice looking bow but a great story that only enhances the look of the bow.

Nice bow, well traveled, with history.

Samuel's going to love it, that bow's going to give him  bragging rites to be proud of.

Sorry.. no before pics. And I'll see if Mark has his website up and running again... he has just started building bows again after a lay off period.
