Ok, Who shot what new bows at Cloverdale and what did you think of it? Did you buy it?


I shoot a Timberhawk longbow and really liked it but wanted to try a few others since I have never shot a longbow. I then went to Striker's booth and shot a slapstik. The arrows went right where I was looking then I tried a stinger had some string slap and did not group a well. Rick checked the tiller and adjusted it and it was stacking arrows after that. I spoke with the guy from Navajo but did not shoot any of his bows.


I did not buy a bow yet but I think a longbow is in my future. I wished there were more bow makers there.

I didn't drag home any new bows, but did find a couple pairs of Bob Lee limbs that needed a new home!

I found alot of feathers and Shafts that needed a home so I adopted some.I didn't buy a new bow for myself but i bought both of my boys a new Black Rhino youth bow and I can say they fling a arrow really well for a Youth bow.

Too bad there were no traditional "Hill style" bowyers at Cloverdale.  I did however add another Hill to my growing Hill collection--found a jewel on the trade blanket made for Hill back when the Kramers were the bowyers--a Big Five, 70" and 46#@28".  A sweet stick for sure.  I had earlier found one on the classified here--one built by John Schulz.  I also got on a trade a brand new string follow Big Five--boy, I like those Howard Hill longbows   :D  .

Dave, I hope that Big Five serves you well. She IS a sweet one but with a 32" draw length I was was over pulling her just a "smidge"... hope our paths cross again, after all those of us who love those long limbed beauties with Howard's name on them have to stick together.

I bought a Navajo Apache and I can't put it down. 50#@28 maple core, curly maple veneers and I can't say enough about how pleased I am. My first experience with Navajo and Roy and both are first rate. I also bought a Black Rhino for my 4 year old and his smile was priceless!

Hey, John, thanks again for the bow.  This evening I plan to twist up a brand new string for her and have some fun.  That bow is pure smooth to draw.  I too hope our paths cross again.  Maybe next year you'll have another Hill on the trade blanket   ....Dave

You are truly a blessed man, not just because of the new-to-you bow but you got to meet one great gentleman in John McCreary! If my memory serves me correctly it was at Cloverdale that I met John also.

I haven't gotten to visit with him for years and it's my loss for sure.

John, if you have any more of those beauties you want to trade off please let me know. I'll try to dig up something you can't live without..lol

David, that is a sweet drawing hill! I have had the pleasure of drawing it a few times in the past!

I lost my wallet there. or at least in sept when the bows should be done.
The wife and I ordered bows from Jim of Black creek bows.
She ordered a Banshee 60 in 35#@28 and i ordered a banshee t/d with recurve limbs 60in 38@28. That bow shot where i looked and most important to me i didnt feel it in my bad bow elbow.
Now for the sleepless nights till there done. gonna be tired for sure.  

Mudd you flatter me. Yes my friend it was at Cloverdale when I first heard the "sweet music" of this Missouri man's yodeling. Kinda miss it...

You folks count your lucky stars to have these gatherings to go to. Nothing even close up here in Nova Scotia. Fun to read about though. Maybe someday....

I walked out with some odds & ends- a tab, nock pliers & a couple of big jim short bills hats(very nice- wish i'd picked up another).  Also bought a set of woodys from Dinks Feather Shop.  Good looking arrows that fly great.  Lastly had to pick up a couple of Dinks foam targets- a possum & 2 bullfrogs.  Kids have had a ball with them.

Nice get Dave ... I use to have a Kramer years ago...nice bows . If i came to one of the big shoots in the USA I'd be hoping to see a few Straight limb bow makers . These "wiggly" longbows just won't do !
