Frankly, I don't see how they can build such a great bow for such a low price.

JT.  I don't have a BW...but I do have some excellent custom bows.  Personnally, I think they are pretty "cheap" for what you get.  YEARS of pleasure and something to keep you connected to your past hunts.  Walking over to my bow rack and pulling off one of my bows- even if just to hold it and look at the beauty of the workmanship and it's "lethal elegance" is something that I regularly do and really enjoy.   Seriously, having a top quality custom bow is certainly a financial commitment but if you spread out all the great memories (I think) its quite a bargain.  just my .02

I was at the Howard Hill shoot in Alabama this weekend and I got to see and handle dozens of different bows.  The Black Widow bows had the most consistent workmanship, finish, and overall quality of any bows there.  

On the way home Jeff Hester and I tried to figure out how much money they had in a bow.  Considering materials, labor, overhead, etc.  jonsimoneau hit it...How do they do it so cheap?

Black widow uses CNC machines and computer controls to machine / work their risers. This dramatically decreases production time and improves consistency and repeatability. Less waste, less wasted time, and a lot less failed risers, limbs, etc....  Add in being a popular company with strong sales and they have the ability to provide a consistant and repeatable product at what BW owners posting here are saying is a great deal.  

Having said all that I have never owned one and my knowledge on their processes comes from their advertising and research into the company when I started shopping for custom longbows in earnest 2 years ago.  They were in the running and a serious option.  I finally decided that I wanted a full on custom that was handmade at every step by a local bowyer. I know quite a few archers who love their products and swear by their bows.

The really great thing about the BW take down, is that you can order a set of limbs and they will fit just like the origonals. You do not have to send in your riser to have them fitted.If you have a trip planned you can get fixed up quickley.You can wait months from these handmade guys. Believe me I been through it before.

Several of the high end bowyers have CNC machines and their bows are not cheap but they are inexpensive for what you get.
I have owned probably way too many bows over the last twenty years and that said I love Widows, there worth every penny.

Here is a little piece of trivia for you; Roger at BW told me that just over 25% of their bows go overseas. I thought that was a lot.

I have three custom recurve bows (and two more on order) that cost more than my BW PSAIII (lh, 58" 52#'S @ 26 inches -- 2004). So, I certainly don't think the BW is over-priced. The only thing I don't like about my BW is how (apparently) vulnerable the limbs are to twisting if a slip occurs while stringing or unstringing. Of course I use bow stringers when removing or stringing any of my recurves. The BW, I think because of the limb taper, seems to be very finicky about this.  The BW folks actually recommended to me that I simply leave it strung, which is how I do all my recurves since I shoot them all (9) at least weekly. The BW folks told me they have bows that have been strung for many years without draw weight loss. By the way, the other bow I have that  seems extra vulnerable to limb twist is my beloved Blacktail Elite VL, so I'm not meaning to pick on a bow brand here.
