I used to hunt 10-12' with good results.  As time passed I started being spotted more and more.  Now I find that I'm at 16-22' depending on the lay of the land.  I try not to locate too close to a run so the shot angle is not so steep.
If it isn't life or death, it's no big deal.

In the U.P. of Michigan I hunt at about 12 ft. but around home I usually hunt from the ground due to hunting state land.

For me here in Wis. 15 to 18 feet is the way to go, you don't. need anything higher, i have killed one deer out of a stand that was about 7ft off the ground, only because the cover that it offered.

I hunt the side of a very steep hill, the first time I hunted there, I immediately went up about 22-24 ft. put on my safety harness, turned around and WOOO!  :scared:  It felt like I was up 40 ft! Now I try to keep it 15-18 ft. It keeps the heart rate down untill the deer show.

Typically 15-18 ft, with decent back cover if I can get it. I get the willies at about 20 feet, especially when fatigued.

i hunt in southern tenn and north alabama and our deer walk through the woods eating acorn and looking up in trees! lol. i have a couple sets of 20 inch climbing sticks so i like to be high 20ft if i can get there. just depends on the tree

xtrema312

16' stick ladders so 15-17' depending on the tree. I don't mind a few more ft. up.  With a climber I get up to about 20' some times.  I have never really seen a need to get higher if I have a good tree or group of trees with good size, limbs, or other back-up to offer cover so I am not just a big bump on a skinny bare tree in the open.

16' is as high as i go, im scared of heights and the first few hunts of the year usually involve me hanging on for dear life.  :scared:

I have gone as low as 10ft and as high as 25-30ft.Depends on the terrain and the cover for me.

I have (2) 6 ft ladder stands,(2) 8ft tripods, (1) 10 ft tripod, and (2) lone wolf loc ons with climbing sticks and woodpecker drill.  I feel I can hunt in just about any terrain.  I hunt woods and marsh.  The lower stands are used mainly for the marsh/crp fields.

stickbowmaniac

The deer on Long Island are hunted a lot so they are always looking up into the trees. The compound guys tend to go very high to avoid being seen. I tried this but found better results keeping them lower so i blend in with the cover. This year I plan to try even lower.
