Just ordered one from the Cabelas Bargain Cave - The 199.00 unit is no longer listed but there is a 60csx bundle for 219.00 It has carrying case and Topo 2006 for all of US. Really worth the extra 20 bucks to me. They are back ordered but called Cabelas and they said they would ship June 2nd so I went ahead and ordered.

Good Luck!

Do the maps that come with it show back country roads etc.  or just city streets/highways?  Also can you purchase the topo maps for a particlar state that would show back country roads for this unit?  I just have a couple of the $100 garmins that do the basics and have been thinking of upgrading. Thanks

Matt D.

I think the one on sale a Cabelas includes the maps for $219, where the one at REI for $199 doesn't.

Outwest

Those are good prices for a good GPS.
I think I paid $400.00 for mine.
I would sell it for $350.00 if anyone is interested!!

I paid $400 for mine and at the time that was a good price. You can download maps free at this site. I downloaded Illinois from there.

The REI deal is a bit confusing.........if you scroll down they offer a set of maps of the Western States for $129. but it does include Nevada.  :bigsmyl:    :bigsmyl:

I don't think Cabela's does any price matching.

I paid $400 for my Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx when $400 was considered a good deal for the unit and Mapsource software.  I've tried several other units and this one is hands down the best for me.  From the pine thickets of KY to the the dark timber in Colorado it has performed flawlessly. Hey, I just downloaded the new KY and IL topos FREE and installed them on my GPS FREE (using "hoyt's" link).  They're have more detail than the standard Mapsource maps; they're more like 24K USGS maps.

I called and checked on this, they do price match, but, the Cabelas is for the Outdoor pack for $219 and the REI is just for the unit for $199. I went with the Cabelas deal!

In the field I power mine with AA Energizer Lithiums I buy in bulk from the local Sam's Club.  One set went 2 weeks in Colorado last year, however there's an important thing to remember if you choose to use the longer lasting lithiums in the 60CSx.  Sometimes the unit will show the opening page on start up and then power down the first time you power up with a fresh set of lithium batteries.  This apparently is a common problem with the unit as there's a lot of chat about it online.  Good news though, there's a quick fix if it happens to you.

BEFORE you place a fresh set in your GPS unit, discharge them a bit by using them in a flashlight or similar device FIRST.  Simply put them in the light and turn it on a few seconds, pop them out and place back in the 60CSx - you should be good to go plus they'll last a lot longer than standard AA alkalines.

FYI:  The powerdown problem does not occur when using alkalines.  I've been using lithium for about 3 years now with zero performance problems, however, occasionally I will have to implement the prodcedure just described.

I paid $400 for mine too and I think it was well worth it at that price! I'm tempted to pick up another at this price!

Check page 2 of user guide re  Lithium Batteries. The 60csx has a built in cut out that prevents most new Lithium batteries from working.

Anyone have a direct Cabelas link? I looked last night and couldn't find anything that matched.

I tried lithium batteries in mine and couldn't get them to work.

Will have to try again.
