Well I have been using my Bear Kodiak 45# @ 28" DL recurve, and I have been having great success returning to the traditional bow.  I had also been using the modern compound less and less with less being stressed as the lack of interest in it really hit me.

Well yesterday, I confirmed the purchase which should arrive next week or the following depending on the mail and shipper of a nice Longbow that is 60# @ 28" DL that has deflex-reflex.  I know its a jump in poundage, but I have also been pulling a 67# at the shop, just to see if I could handle the extra poundage fine, and it did not appear to be a problem.

I already told my son, that he can have the modern compound, just like the last one I gave him.

I'm hoping that he takes an interest into traditional, as I have.  I started with traditional some 41 years or so ago, as I was 12 yrs old then, and of course along the way I became adulterated into the modern compound bows.

I have just been having to much fun with the Bear Kodiak, and enjoy it so much better.

Congratulation!!  Good Luck and have fun!

that is a pretty good jump for someone in their 50s, that is about the age that I started dropping bow weight, not because I could not pull the heavy stuff, one tricky finger joint and worn shoulder. you maybe were under gunned with the 45pounder. Have fun and don't over do with your new toy, I have a serious problem with over doing on both bad days and good days.  I had a really good day so I took out my 64 pounder right hand bow.  It is hard to quit when things are going really well, boy that was a mistake.

We as archer's must keep it alive by helping others into the sport WE LOVE.

I understand completely. Since I went back to traditional 4 years ago I did not one time even think about compounds again. I sold anything on hand that was used for wheelies.

Good on you! But 100% would mean you need to wear buckskin drawers while hunting.

thought that true trad was only wearing buckskin drawers and not bathing...

Congrats, enjoy the new toy!
Give me a bow a topo and two weeks, and I guarantee I kill two weeks!

Have a great summer!

If everyone knew how much fun it is to shoot a traditional bow, Trad gang administrators would be trying to figure out how to boost their system about once a month.
May your next adventure lighten your heart, test your spirit, and nourish your soul.

Let me just say there isn't anything wrong with owning a wheel bow. Heck! I even own one but I think I'm getting a john boat and need an anchor so I keep it..lol

Welcome back!

God bless,Mudd

PS:All kidding aside, I do own one and I needed to to be able to hunt a few years back but as soon as I could draw and hold a hunting weight traditional bow it started collecting dust. I hope I don't ever need it again but it's there if I do.

You were always "traditional" if you hunted for the love of it, cared about the animals and wild ground, and did the right thing when you hunted.

Now you will be doing it with a bow that will allow you to enjoy it all even more.

When your son sees how much fun there is to be had...he will follow your lead.
