First off, thanks to all of you for your high degree of knowledge.I truly enjoy reading member posts and learning as much as I can.

A question for you..Does anyone know of or could recommend a place to do a hunt of any ethical kind over the summer months?

I am a History teacher and due to my school year commitments the best I can do in the fall is a long weekend or occasional day off. This is time I spend whitetail hunting in WI. With little ones running around even those weekends when I CAN hunt are gold..

I have investigated it a bit and it looks like there are some states that have antelope hunts in late August..mostly September though. Caribou may be open in August..When I retire I hope to have enough preference points built up to really hunt in the fall out west..until then...dream... :)

Anyway, if you have any recommendations of specific bow friendly places open in summer I would love to make a list...

Thanks again

Mark

Well it might not be as fun. But here in Michigan there is always something to hunt year round for small game.

No closed hunting season for opossum, porcupine, red squirrel, skunk, thirteen-lined ground squirrel, weasel, woodchuck, English (house) sparrow, European starling, and feral pigeon (rock dove). Click on link for additional rules.

Atleast it gives something to shoot at in the woods at times.

Definitely are some opportunities for antelope, and that is a great hunt for the trad hunter. Also take a look at mule deer in some states. Nevada has some great mule deer hunting although it might take a couple of years to draw. I believe Utah also has some in later August.

Black bear hunting in June can be fantastic. I'm not sure of western states season dates, but Alaska and the Canadian providences should be good in June

Hogs are open year round in most states that have them, and I think parts of Texas have javelina year round.

Lots of options, and no excuse to sit around home waiting for retirement!

Have you ever tried a Texas javelina package hunt? They're normally held between January through May. The link to one is below. Summer hunts in Texas can be brutal do to the heat.

Lots of hunting in Texas during the summer if you have the money for it. Hogs, exotics, etc.
Ask me about CTO.

New Mexico has Barbary sheep hunts statewide except for certain areas that run from April 1, 2010 through March 31, 2011. Non res permit is $360. Check out the   NMDGF site

Thanks for the opening post.  I teach high school here in TN and need to find out about hunting in my neck of the woods.

Our deer season here in California, the A zone, opens in early July.  The 11th I think.  You could do a Blacktail and /or pig (year round) hunt.  The weather is hot but it's doable.  I have hunted the Los Padres National Forest just above Los Angeles (a couple hour drive) which is the southern tip of the A zone.  Did a lot of bow hiking.  No pigs in the area I hunted, you'd have to go more north to do both.
