I'm about to have the concrete poured for my new man cave out building. A 12x16 and. I need some good ideas on making it the ultimate traditional archers hideaway. My wife is tired of having to look at all my stuff so were moving out in the backyard kinda.

I know the feeling...I'm stuck in the basement.  But not so bad    Doc

here's a couple from mine

Two suggestions;

1) Don't make your ceilings TOO high. I have a 24' peak and once you get so high, you can't appreciate the critter anymore just looking up at his chin.

b) No windows! Or very few. Sunlight is hard on your mounts.

Oops....and

3) If you can, put in a double door to the outside so you can get your moose in.

Put some 3/4" plywood over the studs so you can put a screw any place you want. A friend of mine suggested that and I didn't do it so now when I hang BIG critters I'm always confined by having to fine a stud to hang it on ... I have two sky lites facing north for natural indirect light that worked out very well. Like Biggie says sunlight is brutal on mounts, one of my hunting buddies has a big A frame home that gets a lot of direct sun and it has ruined several of his mounts.

When I and 2 buddies built my trophy room - outside walls 12X6 pine log, interior walls and ceiling finished in 1X12 ship lap siding - I had some extra logs so we made the sidewalls around 9 ft - this is as much height as you need for deer - and even at that deer hanging anything over about 5-6 feet is too high unless you have lots of space.  Bigger mounts can hang as high as 9 ft or so OK, otherwise you'll end up looking up the nostrils.  Moose are ugly enough without looking up the nose.  Ditto on the double doors.  The room is 20X22 and I wish it was bigger.  - search "trophy room" in the subject and my handle in the member name and you'll see some pics.  --- I like the log and wood siding too because you don't need to worry about hanging on studs at all on the exterior, and even the interior walls are plenty to support deer mounts just in the ship lap. Any type building finished on the inside with this type lumber has a nice "cabin" feel.

Nice collection, Doc but it looks like you started hanging mounts before the mudding crew was done.
