Shot my first 3-d course with my whisperstik mojo recurve actually it was my first shoot with trad gear it was a 28 target course. I shot a 190 my goal is 224.  I was wondering from those of you shoot 3-ds is 190 a decent score below average just wondering where i am at this point. Thanx

It's hard to say without considering the range the targets were, but for your first shoot with trad gear, I'd say that's pretty good.

I usually judge my shooting by how many arrows I break or lose.  If I come home with my quiver still full of arrows, I done good  

depends... what is a perfect score? i won cloverdale nationals in the youth boys division last year with a 224 outta 260

longest shot was 30 yards only missed one target

thats good... the typical range is about 20-30 yds

a perfect score would be a round of all 12's so it would be 336 scratch is considerd a round of all 10's 280

Given the scoring system, 224 is averaging lungs/kill shots, which is pretty decent shooting.  With that scoring system, it usually takes a score in the 240s or higher to win around here.  190 is about half way between body shots and lungs for an average. Not bad for your first time out.  Leaves room for improvement.  BTW, though 240s or more is usually a winning score, more times than not 75% of the shooters do not average lungs, i.e., 224, but shoot below that score.

Your forgetting the most important thing..........Did you have fun! If you did that was a great score,next it maybe higher,which is a good thing. But go have fun!!!!!

Is the highest score per target 10? If so that's 240 out of 280 or 85% on your first course. Not bad I'd say.

The way I look at it is, if you can hit most of your deer and larger targets in the lungs(8) and a few in the ten and twelve rings also, then you're doing very good. Where I lose most of my points on are the smaller targets. Like raccoons, turkeys, javelinas, groundhogs, and such. Make up for lost points on the deer and elk targets.

The 3D Shoots I've been in have some longer shots (i.e. 70 yds)that I've done with a compound, but when you guys score your round do you move closer on the longer shots?

this wasnt a tourny a local archery club has a range they change every week they have three stakes at eeac target a womens/kis  hunter and open class  open class is always the furthest away hunter class is in the middle and womens closest.  i shot the hunter stake my compound shooting friends shot the open stakes

Sometimes my Father and I go to shoots and do minus 5 for body shots instead of the normal 5 point score....That makes it tough for sure and really makes you think about your shot.

Just averasging 8 points a target will put you in the top 10% at every shoot I have ever been to.It won't win unless it is a really tough course or no good shooters show up but is respectable among trad shooters.Averaging 9s will put you in the top handfull and get you a piece of plastic many times.The main thing is to have fun with it and compete with yourself to improve.Don't worry about the other guy your own score is the one to beat.

Shoot, Have fun, enjoy the fellowship, Write a score down if ya remember too, have fun. Your score was great for the first trad shoot. Just go out and shoot. Your scores will get better each time. The most important thing at this point is have fun... ooopps I said that already  

Where I shoot they don't have trad stakes only pro and hunting, ranges up to 50 yards and most targets 30 to 40 yards. Its a tough shoot and only shoot at the stakes once in awhile and move up on the really far targets so I don't keep score. Sounds like you are doing really good for the first time.

We don't keep score when we go to a 3-d shoot. This frees us up to pick our shot at each target. We will move closer, or farther, maybe step off the path a little to shoot between trees, under branches, etc. (keeping safety in mind at all times). I don't know where the kill zone is on some targets. I've seen mosquitos, baboons, cobras, a t-rex etc. I'm not interested in buying and studying kill zone locater cards, so we just shoot where we think the kill shot should be and move on. Sounds like you shot pretty well, especially for your first time. Did anyone mention to keep it fun? :^)
