hey guys and gals I'm new to the traditional game and I'm wanting to get some carbons but i don't know what size arrow and grain heads to use I'm shooting a bear super kodiak recurve 50#'s @28" draw thanks for any help

I use golt tip 55 75 with a 125gr head.
you can add weight to the insert to fine tune flight. Mine are 30" with 120grns up front and a 125gr head, I have shot these out of 50lb bows and they fly good. They best thing to do is go to an archery shop and see if they have any arrows you can try.  Good luck

What is your draw length?

I'd suggest some .500's and about a 200 grain point to start.

Has YOUR draw been measured at 28"? If you draw more or less than that, the rated 50# @ 28" marked on your bow will not be the bow's weight at your draw.

I think the Gold Tip 35-55 would be a better choice than the stiffer 55-75s.

What arrows are you currently using, and their length, and do they fly well for you?

gold tip 35-55 .55-75 will be to stiff unless you put a some serious weight up front

ok i see. no my draw is 27" and the bow is 28" sorry bout that. so this means that the weight is less than 50lbs doesn't it

im using wood arrows now that are 29" not sure of the arrow or head grain they were with the bow when i traded a guy my compound for his recurve after i shot a deer @60 yards it just didn't seam like bow hunting any more and i wanted to get back to true bow hunting

Heritage 150s cut to 28"s and you will need anywhere from 250 to 275 up front. If ya cut them long, like 29"s 225 up front wiill work. 35-55 GT will work ar 28"s but you will need at lease 225 upfront. Shawn

I'm using Gold Tip Traditional 35/55's full length footed with a 1" piece of 2117, 125gr. points & 25gr. inserts & 5" feathers for my 51* @ my draw length Zona & they shoot pefectly for me.

Now up front on my arrows I've got 163gr..

Yes, you are drawing less than 50 pounds, somewhere close to 47. I am drawing near that at a shorter draw. I am using the GT 35-55 cut to 28" and 175 grains on the front.

I am not as experienced with carbons as I am with aluminums, but have been experimenting with Carbon Express and now Gold Tips. I found a CE 150 that shot great, but the next dozen CE 150s that I bought were way too stiff. I then tried CE 90s, but they seem a touch weak, and the smaller diameter will not take all the neat adapters that the 150s will.

The Gold Tips were great right off the bat. I got the woodgrain ones, and the whole line has the same inside diameter, so the adapters and weights and inserts are all interchangeable.

Have you tried a 2016 aluminum?

Trad only .500's with 100gr. inserts and adjust tip weight until you get good flight. I shoot the same # and use a 100 or 125 tip. My arrows measure 28.75 to BOP. Works for me, good luck!

First off welcome from Kentucky.

Same as Ranger. All my bows are around 50@28 and I draw 27". I use 500 spined Easton Traditional Only shafts. I put 200-225 grain tips on them.

ok thanks guy's and no i haven't tried aluminum i don't have a case and I'm afraid that my arrows will get bent up in the truck. on my compound i always used carbon express hunters in 300 but with the recurve you guys are making me lean towards the gold tips ill keep you all posted how it goes this summer.
