Howdy,

I'm trying to figure out what bow to get my wife...
Longbow
smaller grip
medium to dark medium colored wood in riser
34@24
56-60"
Spend somewhere between $300-450

I think the Howard Hill Bobcat fits the bill, she is shooting a Hill bear cub right now ( and LOVES it) but it was her brothers when he was growing up. I want to get her, her very own. All she has ever shot is the straight grip so I don't know if I want to change it too much.

Is there any other bow that fits the bill that I should take a look at?

I came from nothing and I brought it with me.

The Hill Bobcat is a nice bow for the money.  If she's been shooting the Bear Cub, go for 60" on the Bobcat.  She'll appreciate the length and smoother pull.   You know her capabilities, but make sure that 34# is really comfortable for her, not a stretch.  Hopefully, she'll be shooting it for a long time.  A light bow that's comfortable is better than one that's pushing.   I shoot with a lady who uses the lightest longbow I've built, 17@25 and she takes every shot on the course without hesitation.

Thank you, I just have to decide between the straight and hill locator grip. She is currently shooting a bow two pounds lighter and really likes it. I may just stick with that weight.

so no one else has experience with these short hill bows?

i've had a few customers order Hill Bobcats from me and all were very happy with them. As usual i'm with Dick in terms of length...the longer the better as it'll be smoother and just that bit more stable. 56" in a straight limb bow is a fair ol' pull even at 24" draw.

I haven't shot the locator grip on a Hill, but I have shot the dished grip a bunch, and actually prefer it. May not be so much of a change for your wife, if she's used to the straight grip.

The locator just doesn't look right on a Hill, either, IMO.

Hi Nightowl!
Just ordered my wife a Bobcat for an anniversary present. It will be 60", 30# @28 since she struggles a little with her 35# recurve. She also has a 24" draw. We got yew limbs with clear glass, based on the Redman according to Jason. I'm sure she will love it. Let us know what you settle on. Jason gave me a 6 week delivery on it, mid June or so. Also, went with the dished grip.
