Does anyone use duravanes for their traditional arrows and if yes do they shoot well?

I have only used vanes on a recurve with an elavated flipper type rest and it worked fine.I don't use vanes for shooting off a shelf,just didn't get good flight.

I use 4" duravanes on a couple of my setups but only with an elevated rest (Bear Weather rest). I have tried to shoot off the shelf but with negative results, I like the vanes because they are QUIETER than feathers not only that they are impervious to the weather!!!

so i should get a rest

2" might be to big height wise they may kick off the rest and throw your shot off.They tend to be stiff compared to a 4" vane.I used them for my wheels.IMO

If you are going to shoot vanes, yes get a rest, vanes KICK the arrow to the side instead of folding like feathers do, that will give you bad flight every time.I personally use Bear weather rest and I like them. There are alot of different rests out there and they are pretty cheap try out a couple see what you like.

I've used them for shooting off the shelf,but an this is a big BUT,you have to shoot cock vane in and your arrow MUST be perfect in spine.
Any over spine an you can simply forget it,slightly under spined is ok.
The reason for this is with Cock vane in the paradox will make your hen vanes clear the shelf with no problem.
The Cock vane will still touch the strike plate but not enough to effect arrow flight.
My cock vanes do show very slight wear from touching the strike plate,but it takes a lot of shots before it becomes obvious.
Two things here,a rest will make it easier,but if you look at the hens if your shooting cock vane out,you will still see wear,and if your shooting cock vane in,you'll also still see wear,,it's just not enough contact to effect flight.

22yrs ago I shot my first deer with vanes off the shelf. I didn't know any better. I do remember turning them cock vane in and they shot fine. I believe they were Marco vanes and were really soft.

Just yesterday I was thinking about trying vanes again. I've about had it with the cheap feathers you get now. If I could find very soft ones I would give it a go. I'm not interested in using a rest, just shoot off the shelf.

I use AAE Plastifletch Elite off the shelf - they are pretty soft.
