The rut really runs from mid Sept on into Feb. What we often refer to "The Rut" is actually the "peak" of the rut.

A major portion of the does (30-40%) breed in that two-three week window, but the rest breed sometime else. Approximately equal numbers before and after, and fawns will be born accordingly.. Survival rate on fawns from breedings outside of the "Peak" are pretty weather dependant.

It is very possible to see does with fawns already as it is to see small fawns with spots in Oct and even Nov. Seeing early fawns is not a sign of a change or trend, just something to be understood and enjoyed.

If memory and my math serves me close to right, gestation is 210 days which means the peak of fawning should be mid May.

Glynn, you from Chebanse?
I'm just down the road in Watseka.
To see a fawn already around here would mean it was either "spawned" in October or the mother dropped early. Which is possible - I guess.
I usually see them around my Birthday on May 25th.

When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

Haven't seen any, but saw some awfully small tracks lately.  Like an inch to inch and a half.

I haven't seen any fawns just yet, not saying there might not be a few around.

I saw 5 does run across a field in front of me this weekend while turkey hunting. I was wondering why none of them looks heavy set.
