The old order is passing. Swiftly receding into memory are the days of strong, earnest men who followed an atavistic yearning to pit their skills against wild animals.

The blonde beard is a melanin deficiency in the beard during that stage of the growing period of the bird.  Usually caused by some sort of stressfull time in a turkeys life...disease,etc...

The lack of melanin makes the beard brittle, which causes them to sometimes break, hence the shortness of the beard on a mature bird.

Very cool bird Jake!

Thanks for the science behind the beard, very interesting.

I didn't notice any other signs of trauma like scares, etc, but early one he could have fought a disease or something like that.  All in all a very healthy looking bird otherwise inside and out.
