Okay the weather is hot, and the inside of my truck is hotter.  I have ALWAYS thought about this but have never really dont anything about it.  So my question is-  Are laminated bows safe in the hot vehicles during the summer time?

Its bowfishing weather and I have my bow out in the truck right now, along with the fly rod so I can go with whatever wim calls my name on break between my college classes!

NO.  Glues will delaminate in hot enough temps.

if you unstring it before placing it in your truck you should be fine. However some strung bow can delam if exposed to around 120 degree for 3-4 hrs.bd

Usually have at least one bow and a few arrows behind the seat of the truck all year. Unstrung in a sock out of the sun should be no problem. Used to stumpshoot(trashshoot) in 29 Palms CA desert in the summer for hours, temps 100+.  With modern bows I've never had a problem with any of them coming apart.

Several years ago a friend and I were tracking a deer he shot.  We went near my jeep so I placed my strung longbow in the passenger side.  It was in the 70s, so I rolled down the passenger window as well.  When I returned in an hour, the lower limb was delamnated and was shaped like a candy cane.  I believe it was the sun through the wing window that damaged the bow.

I never liked to leave  my bow in the car for an extended period, even if I left it unstrung.Years ago I would take a bow with to work for shooting after work.I would take my bow inside with me unstrung in a bowsock.I just never want to take a chance, leaving my bow in my car bow oven.

I just went out and took care of it, it is still nice out and my truck wasnt that warm, it was actually cooler, but like I said it is suppose to get HOT, I kinda miss the snow now  :biglaugh:

Chris,
Even shipping bows during the summer can take it's toll on a bow if it isn't packaged very good...I know it can get very hot in one of those "BROWN" box vans and if the A/C is broke!  :archer2:

This is a great reason for a "knock around" bow - ok boys - start shopping!!!  H

I asked Dan Toelke about my Whips temerature tolerance and he said it's good from very cold, up to about 65 degrees. Which I reckoned he was talking about celsius, not fahrenheit. It all depends on what glue you are using I guess..

HAHA!! This is funny. I sometimes shoot at the archery shop on the way to work. I look pretty funny walking into work in a tuxedo (I bartend) carrying a bow.....LOL! I ain't leaving my bows in the car though!! I've had one delaminate in the car before I knew better.

Last year at the Howard Hill shoot my buddy stuck his bow in my truck strung for less than a hour and guess what, it came apart.
