So, I've been trying to build my own bow, but I also wanted to get my son started (just turned 4 in February).  I managed to track down the youth pipe bow (PVC) instructions through this site and we took a trip to the hardware store yesterday.  Unfortunately, I ran into a few problems...  They only had the thicker, schedule 40 PVC, so I ended up getting that.  I added a few inches to the bow hoping that might make the weight a bit less...?  Oh, and it's a nice bright yellow and navy blue (two of his favorite colors that he helped paint on).  We also stopped by a local archery shop yesterday and I told them what I was doing-they cut down 3 old carbons they had, put field points in and fletched them for just over $7 bucks.

After we started shooting, I quickly found it was going to be a challenge for him-too much on draw weight.  That being said, he still managed to plug one into the target (one he helped paint with those oh so cool colors).

Anyway, I'm going to have to figure out a way to get him into a bow that's lighter.  He sure enjoyed getting to do it, but he just had too hard a time trying to draw the darned thing...

Happy Easter-hope you all are enjoying the day.    :archer:

You should contact Bob Sarrels at Sarrels Archery and talk to him about one of his kids bows. They are cheap and are of real good quality. Your sons bow will look "just like daddy's" and he would love it. I know he has made some for younger kids than yours. Call Bob at 512-940-3098. Here is a link to his website:
