Who makes the best turkey decoys?

Depends on what you consider as best - most portable, realistic, inexpensive. Best looking without a doubt is a full body mount of a hen. But not very durable or portable.

I like the look and price of the Delta deks. But more and more in recent years turkeys turn and head the other way as soon as they see a decoy, at least in the area I hunt. I used to have great success with decoys, but not so much anymore...

I like the Carry-Lite decoys... they've not only fooled turkeys for me, but even fooled a fox.

i like a good ruber decoys then i take and spray them with a clear coat to shine them up and the turkeys love em some thing about the shine

I have busted old Tom with just a tail fan off a real gobbler. Put two screws on a stake, fanned out an used car bondo to set feathers. Good an cheap! Works! LOL

In the past,my success uaing decoys on public ground has been poor. I would half hide the decoy in order for the birds to approach within range. So far, the DSD has already proven itself this year on public land.

Thanks guys! Those DSD decoys are awesome! I'll have to pick one up next year. I went ahead and ordered the Cary-Lite feeding hen. For the money, the feeding hen looked really good. Gary, how many decoys do you use and how are you transporting them in and out of the woods?

Cherokee sports make decoys you can blow up.They look good because they are a picture of a real turkey.They also transport good because you just let the air out.They use taxidermy heads that connect by just sliding it together.They are not too expensive either they are around 25 for a hen decoy and 30 or 35 for a gobbler.It only takes about 30-45 seconds to blow them up.

I've had great luck with the cherokee dekes. I use the lone hen and had gobblers try and mount it and hens beat the heck out of it

Which decoy can stand to be shot the most often. When I take kids spring turkey hunting it seems they enjoy nothing more than shooting at the decoys if nothing is going on or the tom we were just working spooked. It also gives me a pretty good idea as to how far they can shoot at a live turkey on that day.

I have had real good luck with the blow-up Cherokees as well.

Something about being able to turn the head a little makes it more realistic, the head looks great. That and the the neck is slimmer than most other decoys.

I cut the dangley legs off though, waste of plastic on them. In a strong wind, you have to be sure thay are staked in the ground good though or they will blow away.

A word of caution concerning a DSD decoy.
My partner arrowed a bird last week and was planning to wait in the blind for 1 1/2 hrs because his dad was hunting close by. Soon after shooting the bird, a pair of gobs came in to his set-up. One bird mounted the jake decoy and stood on top of it for more than five minutes. Once he got down, he knocked the decoy off its stake and then proceeeded to stop it and broke off the head. The gobs then went over and took turns stomping the dead bird. Quite an expensive show.
