As some may know, My favorite bow is the Shrew & Griffin by John McCullough and Gregg Coffee.  Both bowyers used to make beautiful selfbows.  Most people have seen some of Gregg's selfbows as one seems to pop up on the St Judes Auction each year.  But I'm sure most have NOT seen any of John's selfbows.

Just thought ya'll might like to see a McCullough bow that preceded the Shrew & Griffin.  I've had this bow for quite sometime.  If anyone has another McCullough selfbow please post a couple pictures...Doc

For hunting to have a future, we must invest ourselves in future hunters.

Wow Jeff, that is really one fine looking stick. You need to post pics of one of your rare bows every week...that would be quite an educational thread.

Headed to Tignall this weekend, have a line on some private property with "hog problems". If it works out like these folks say, we'll have another spot for us to hunt when you come down.

Yes, nice bow, Doc. Handled alot of John's selfbows back in the early '90s. I have one of the last BBO bows he made from a piece of 40 year old osage I had. Sorry, no pics at this time.

What would you attempt to do, if you knew you could not fail?

John used to come to the BBTC (then called the MATC) in B'more. He and a buddy who built nothing but arrows, would show up and they were such great guys to talk to. I bought a 54# RACO longbow of John's. A simple red elm/glass longbow. Zero handshock, smooth... but I never shot a longbow quite as well as a recurve (grip thing I guess) and then after shoulder surgery, I never got back to 54# draw... and it just sits. But I always will have fun memories of John McCullough and a few follow up calls to him.

Doc Nock,
It's always great to hear a few yarns about John...that's kinda why I posted this.  Thanks

Man that is a beauty.  And one of a kind.
The shrew type bows are my favorite also in the one-piece ultra-light class.  Amazing little bows.
Thanks for giving a peek.
