I'm looking at fletching a few arrows with some left wing for wet days in the woods.

Can I purchase them anywhere?  All my waterfowl friends have discarded theirs.  

Are they as durable as turkey feathers when stumping?

Should I cut them into 5" shields, or would they perform better as Flu-Flu's?  What chopper does everyone recommend?

Since they're a migratory and game bird, it might be illegal to sell their feathers.  There are several skin/feather sellers on the web.  Can't think of the names of the operations, but you might do a search.

They're more resistant to water than turkey feathers, but not as durable in my opinion.  Goose feathers aren't as wide and the oil line isn't as high as turkey feathers.  I don't think they would make as good flu-flus as turkey.

I have hunted with goose fletched arrows; and I really like the waterproof factor. They are not as durable as turkey feathers; but its not a bad plan to have some set up for a rainy day.

Geese drop their feathers right about now; and finding primary wing feathers increases with the size of the goose flock.

Raven Arrow sells gray goose feathers. I could not come up with their email but got their phone 208-256-4341.

the idea behind using goose feathers is three fold - they make great fletchings, they're free, and they're quite water resistant.  it'd be a bummer to hafta pay for 'em.

i never use flu-flus, but don't see why they wouldn't work as such.  i've cut them for 4" to 5.5" fletchings - banana, parabolic, sheild and scissor cut primitive.

What chopper does everyone recommend?

if yer dabbling in fletch chopping, li'l chopper.  there are others that are way more costly and will probably last longer.

i pick them up at a park when the birds moult.

Hit the ponds around the parks in your area during the molt.  Lots of freebies to pick up.  Next year have your hunting buddies store up a bunch for you.  I have tons of them thru that resource.
