I, like many of you have the gotta try this and that bug. I love the look and feel of a long bow, but have to face the facts, I just cant shoot them  near as well as recurve.  I have had several, and gotten profecient, but never super consistent past 20 yds. I about had fits this winter shooting one I traded for, was determined I would follow through till I got where I wanted to be, but It would not come together after a couple of months, shooting every day, slow and steady, coaching myself like I do my 4H kids. I sold the longbow, have worked a month to get rid of bad habits learned trying to shoot it and yesterday and today was shooting as good as I ever have in my life. I shot 2,10 shot groups in a deer target, all  in the vitals and all arrow touching, from 18-35 yds, walking back and forth, zig zagging back and forth 2-5 steps after each shot from different angles and distances. This was with my hunting arrow set up, just field points instead of BH's. I have found my magic bow, a couple of years ago and keep coming back to it, actually 3 of them, Quinns with assorted sets of limbs. I must be soft in the head to keep looking, I know that is part of the fun of this trad stuff we love, but in these economic times, I am going to swear off buying any new bows this year, and focus on what I have got. I am grateful to shoot the way I am, dont fix it if it aint broke. I am putting any fun money towards hunting instead, less tinkering and frustration and more enjoyment. Just venting I guess.

Sorry the LB didn't work out but the ride was fun. If you;re happy you;re where you should be. Mine is exact opposite & shoot nothing but straight handle Hills for 32 years.

Shoot what you shoot well.  Don't fight it.  Longbows definately take a totally different form and grip to shoot right.  Sounds like you know what to shoot stick with it and enjoy the ride.

A bow that you shoot well and cash for hunting trips.  Sounds like you have a great season coming up!

Nothing wrong with being happy with one bow.I have heard of some being blessed that way,just never seen it.    The rest of us keep the ecomomy going however buy buying up all the bows.  :D

I wish I could find one bow and be satisfied, just can't seem to be content without several hanging on the wall.  I know that I shot better, when years ago, I didn't know anything about the classifieds and only shot one longbow.  Haven't shot that well since.  It would really do me good to only have one bow now as I have problems with my fingers and can't shoot as much as I used to.

Too many bows and too little time....    

Koger, wish I had the self control the you are exhibiting. Specially when it comes to longbows. I currently have only one recurve. It resides in the TD case tucked away in the drawer. After untold years of shooting different bows, I finally learned that Howard Hill was right. The straight end longbow is, for me, the only way to go.

Yes, I have ran the "gauntlet" and keep returning to recurves (Black Widows).  It has been fun but at times fustrating.  It is more fun and rewarding to be hitting stuff! LOL Best to stick with what works.

Thanks for the response guys. I also feel like it is our responsibility to the game we hunt, to be at the top level of our shooting ability, to insure quick, clean kills and short bloodtrails.
