Guy/Gals,
Need a good source for some Copperhead Skins. I looked at Pine Hollow but it appears he only sells rattlers and some local variation.  Is there a sponsor with Trad Gang that sell Copperheads?  Thanks

Unless the law has changed, they are illegal to use in MS.  If it's an animal native to MS, and there is no open season for it, it's illegal to possess it in part or in whole, alive or dead, without a special permit.

Spurs

So, I can't legally hunt with my Morrison that has Copperhead skins?  That's crazy.
I like Spurs

Morrison Mini ILF copperhead skinned
Morrison Shawnee copperhead skinned

Bob Morrison hasn't been able to get them in for 3 years.

The way I understand it, it wasn't legal to ship to MS to begin with.  It also includes rattlesnakes native to MS, including canebreak/velevet tail rattlers.  I imagine in also included beaver tails and gar skins.  I've never heard of anyone getting even a ticket, but it's the law.

Ok, here's what the MDWFP web site says.

"SELLING OF ANIMALS NATIVE TO MISSISSIPPI
Person cannot buy or sell or offer for sale, or exchange for merchandise or other consideration, any game animal, game bird or game fish (regardless of whether it was taken in or out of Mississippi), except as follows: the skins and sinew of legally taken deer may be bought or sold at any time and the carcasses of raccoons and muskrats may be sold for food during the open trapping season, and raccoon carcasses may be sold during the open gun season on raccoons.  It is also illegal to buy or sell any non-game wildlife native to the State of Mississippi ."

Site addy is  http://home.mdwfp.com/License/info.aspx?id=13  .

I found out about this stuff when I wanted to start selling skins.  Seems crazy to me too.

LBR,

Do you have the Regulation your talking about or can you direct me to where I can find this?  If that is true the proverbial "Pandoria Box" just opened and I like to know how they will enforce it. Then that would hold true for E. Diamond backs or any skins for that matter, very interesting.

Would'nt a "Game animal" be something that you can hunt and has a season? I skimmed through the site and only saw a reference to indigo and one other snake-both of which were protected....Not trying to stir a debate, just curious.

I heard the same thing here in NY, and I eventually asked a EnCon Officer after searching the regs....he had no idea and said he would find out for me. Still waiting.

Every now and then they will pop up on E**y,but they do get expensive usally $90 to sometimes $150 for a set.Have you thought about Limbsations from Onestringer, they are like arrow wraps. They are less costly, less then $25 and easy to install and remove without hurting the bows finish and they come in the copperhead pattern.

LBR

It doesn't cover just game animals--check out the last line in bold in my last post.

Dunno how it could be enforced, but it would stink to get checked while out hunting and get ticketed and possibly get your bow confiscated.

Are copperheads in MS if not I'll get you some come spring.Email me

Ok Guys I ran this up the Chain of Command with the MS dep't of Wildlife and Talked with Chief Steve Adcock and he said "the law applies to the buying, selling and trading of the byproducts" and "you can kill them and use them on your bow, just can't have more than 3 in possession". So if I can find some I will use them, and the GW is not going to molest you about them either.

Catch them yourself, now is the time of year for rolling tin around old collapsed buildings for copperheads and canebrakes.

Good to know.  Like I said, I've never even heard of anyone getting a ticket, but it wouldn't be worth it to me to risk it.  I've had friends have run-ins with game wardens obviously having a bad day, and if they want to write a ticket they can find something.

rainman

Also MS does not have the same species of Copperhead as other places so if you can prove it is a species not native how could they ticket you?
