What a great day. Kolby and I whipped out a quick PVC bow today and had a blast stump shooting. He is nearly 8 yrs old and unfortunately doesn't live near me so it is rare that I get to share my love of archery with him.  He shot a recurve at a Cub Scout camp this summer and has shown a lot of interest lately.  Yesterday we went to help set up for the Traditional Bowhunters of Georgia state shoot.  One of the early arriving vendors had a few really neat kids bows (i believe osage).  He was really excited about getting one but I didn't have enough cash on me.  I promised him we would build a simple bow today and if he sticks with it, I'll buy or build a nice wood one soon.  So today I bought a piece of 3/4" PVC and few machine bolts and nuts. Using an old string from a Bear Grizzly my uncle gave me and a piece of leftover foam from babyproofing fireplace hearth edge, we fashioned a pretty slick bow.  Once I test shot it to make sure it was safe, we covered it with camo duck tape and he took a couple test shots.  Then we hit the woods behind the house for a little stump shooting  :)   We had a blast!  Not bad for 30 minutes and $2.00. Now I need to make a few arrows better suited to the bow and continue to guide him on the wonderful journey of tradional archery and hopefully hunting.  Tomorrow, we may be able to swing by the TBG shoot.  He will be thrilled to shoot some 3D critters.

Great idea for a cheap kids bow, looks like your son has great form.  Thanks for sharing your pics.

Very cool. That bow will mean a lot to him for the rest of his life.

For hunting to have a future, we must invest ourselves in future hunters.

Look at the form the young man has! Can't get any better.

Perfect idea!  My 5 year old is wanting to shoot some with me.  I've thought about making him a board bow, but that boy could break an anvil with a feather.  I'd like to give him something nearly indestructible.  Any idea on the draw weight?

Great to see your son showing an interest.

Goke

Congrats! That is very cool.

It doesn't take much to plant the seed.  Way to go Dad.
