Well I'm pretty sure a friend of mine just gave me his shakespeare X-12 #55, at least for a very long-term loan.

I haven't shot it yet but any inside info on it would be great.

Its got a typical B50 string on it and an outrageously large brace height.

I'm thinking of using it to shoot light (6-7gpp) arrows with a skinny string (8-10 strand FF) for 3D. Anyone think it won't survive that?

Thanks,
        Grant

Tom

Arrows too light and Bow won't handle the ff,IMHO.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

I'll bet George would know about such things for sure. He's sure to see the title and chime in.

I made-up a string for it last night. 10 strand and well padded in the loops. A few test shots and I'm pretty confident that so long as I pad well it won't do any harm. Also the lower brace height feels a lot easier on the bow then how it was originally set-up.
I shoot FF in my selfbows so I'm less cautious then most with it.

As for arrows. I guess I will just shoot some fairly heavy ones (8-9gpp) and slowly ladder down the weight until I feel a little handshock. I generally use handshock as a means of judging when I've hit the minimum acceptable arrow weight for a give bow.

Any further input would be just great.

I only use dacron on my older recurves and like to keep my arrows around 9-11 gpp,but don't shoot any lower then 8 gpp.BCY has a new dacron out B55,suppose to be better then the old B500.Less creep and stretch but still safe for older dacron bows.
