What spine are 500's?

Got some that came with a bow I got and have never shot carbons and don't know anything about the spine or what I need for a 45# bear montana

my draw is 28" and I will probably shoot 125-150 Grains up front on this set up or what ever I need to get 10 or 11 grains per inch.

The arrows are not marked but the guy I bought the bow from said they where 500'S. they are full length so I got room to work.

I'm currently shooting some Beman 500's out of my Wing recurve that is 38# @ 28".  The arrows are 29-3/4" with standard insert and 225 gr. up front.  The arrows according to Stu Millers Dynamic Spine Calculator spine about 40 lbs.  Total arrow weight is around 485 gr.

These same arrows with 200 gr. up front will spine around 44 lbs. and weight about 460 gr.  Or, 225 gr. up front and 29" long will spine 44 lbs.

The carbon arrows are 7.3 gr. per inch.

I believe the 500 is the deflection indicator. Meaning when you place the shaft on two points 26" apart and hang a 2# weight in the middle the shaft it will deflect .500" or 1/2". Using 26" divided by .500 gives you a 52# spine.

I think they are done on 28" centers.

Encino Man is right, except that todays carbon arrow deflections are rated at 28" instead of 26".  Thus the spine is stiffer at 63 lbs. at daveycrocket noted above.

beman ics 500 shafts are my carbons of choice.  29.5" long, 400 grains up front, total arrow weight is 645 grains ... out of a 55# mild r/d longbow.  they work real nice.  for me.

There's a guy ( I know what it is but can't remember) on here that has a VERY GOOD spine calculator.  I used it to get my axis 500's right for my 48lb recurve.  It was very close for me - i think I had to raise my front end weight 25 grains when I was said and done and happy with my flight.  But it sure put me in the ballpark ALOT better than the easton charts and other manufacturer charts.  The guy calls it the "dynamic spine calculator" and it is in excel so it does all the math for you.  But remember, measure everything and give it good info.  As the saying goes - junk in = junk out.

My carbons shoot very good and am happy with them.

What are my options for loading the front besides heavier heads?

I use the 500 with my 47lb bow.

You can get some brass adapters or glue on heads with heavy adapters.

yeah. Stu's spine calculator is amazing! However, it will give you a good starting point only! Go out bareshaft your arrows. Mine fly as if they had fletching till 30 yards.

I just put one on my spine tester and it is about 63# on 13" centers and using a 2# weight.
