Stan's a long time tg'er and sponsor.

Stan sent me some of these a while back to try out and I finally got the chance to test them a bit at the JLMBH.....

These screw -in's, at the time, were(maybe still are, not sure)only available in 125grs. The glue-ons weren't ready yet so I had to used an alum. screw-in adapter on my wood arrows.

The weight of this combo made for perfect tip weight, the arrows flew perfect!

Shooting them around the practice area I found them to be very durable and penetrated extremely well.

On one shot there was a 2"thick, and about 8x10" ethafoam target with a bunny on it. The target was just set there, nothing holding it down.

The arrow slipped thru so fast, the target barely fell over as the arrow continued thru the 5/8" waferboard about 5 ft behind the foam, and probably would have kept going right thru that, but it finally came to rest against the housing of an old lawnmower deck that was a couple feet behind the waferboard.....good stuff!

After one of the pushes, I found this old cow skull and thought it would be another good test. A bunch of us fired away at it.  Some penetrated, some didn't.

But my Talon blew right thru and was stuck in the ground a few inches....

Although I didn't get to actually see what they'll do to a rabbit or squirrel. Just from what I've seen so far, I have no doubt that they will be a perfect combination of shock and cutting power.

Just what's needed for those "pound for pound", tougher than heck squirrels.

The cool part is that you can make them as sharp as you need them. Just put a file to them, or lay on a stone and they get pretty wicked!

As far as a pure "stumping" head, because of their wedge shape, they don't catch as much debris to stop them as quickly as say, a judo.Still do a good job though. But for a small game "hunting" head, I've never tried anything better!

Just though I'd pass along my findings on a great new small game head. Give them a try....

Agreed Curt. They are a great head. I have some as well and can't wait to see what they do on small game. I think they will be great on grouse as well.

I'll say "That skull is graveyard dead for sure now"!  :scared:

Dirtybird

Thats pretty good penetration on that part of the skull Curt.  I'm going to look into those for sure, thanks for the info.

Great looking heads, can't wait to get my hands on the glue on models.

You really haven't hunted the old fashion way until you've done it from one of these Indian houses.(The Tipi) "Glenn ST. Charles"

I have some too and they are wicked awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Haven't used on on a critter yet, waiting for the snow to melt down a little.
The edges can be made extremely sharp. I'm itching to see what they can do!
Just one more step please!

They are great heads.  Heckuva design.  I've yet to be able to break one even on rock!  The arrow breaks before it does.  They fly well and put a whomp on critters.

I was there! I saw what those tips were capable of. Good stuff

Bet those things could go through steel.  Curt how did they fare on the steel bunny?  :clapper:

I'll bet those will be lethal on woodchucks     We have very rocky ground in the hay fields around here and it's hard on broadheads those look real tough.

Dang, how the heck did I miss this one for so long...  :knothead:

Curt, thanks for the review, bud.  Sorry that I couldn't get a glue on model in your hands in time.  I guess not everything happens as fast as I want it to.  Thanks to everyone else who has tried the head and liked it.

I am currently working with a new manufacturer and that has set me back a bit timewise, but I do believe it will be a much better long term arrangement.  They have me scheduled for some glue-on heads in three to four weeks.  Will definitely do a Tradgang members deal when the glue-ons come in.  Least I can do for the community that has been so good to me for so long.

There have been a few critters taken with the Talon to date.  The best pic I have is of a bunny taken by my buddies son, Garrett.  He is an absolute natural with a longbow.

Really looking forward to getting some more pics from you all when small game seasons come back around.

JC

Mean looking head. Any chance you'll make one in 300gr?

I just got some from Stan and broke my wrist! But I am back shooting now and am planning a trip to the eastside of the state...coyote and rabbit country!!! I'll have them sharpened up and ready to go. Hope some pics are to follow.

300gr! What are you trying to kill with them?!!  :scared:

Hi JC,

Were you thinking screw-in heads or glue-on?

Stan

JC

Preferably screw-in but a 175 or 200 gr glue on would make a 300 easy enough. I know it's tough to get something everyone wants...but heavy heads are definitely becoming more and more popular. Just a thought.

I was just kidding ya JC. I know you have your arrow/head setup and it works great for you...why change unless you have to.  I am going to take the 125gr heads and put them in some 100gr brass inserts for 225gr.

Don Wilson had a buddy cut the point off and then drill and tap some field points so they would accept a standard screw in head on their end. Soon as someone comes up with selling those in 175gr, a whole new world of heads will be available to me    :D  I see all kinds of lightweight heads I would like try.

As you know, it's a pain building different arrows for each head choice...my problem is I had to pick something obscure like 300gr. What was I thinking    :banghead:
