My wife is asking me what I want for my birthday and so I am in the market for a new Long/Hybrid bow and have been looking at Centaur, Black Swan, Morrison bows and any others that you guys say.  Can you guys help me find one?  Can you guys also post pics of your carbon limb bows?  Thanks so much!!!!!

Well all three are fine bows. My advice would be to try to get to a meet and shoot each of them because they can fit each shooter differently. What I love you may not be able to stand.

Here are some Black Swan pics.

What wood is the bow?  Is it the hybrid?

It is a Hybrid with actionwood handle.

Centaur, Black Swan, Morrison bows are all great. Another one to consider is a Shrew which comes in a one piece or a two piece takedown. The latest Shrew foam/carbon limbs are among the best. I'm sure there will be other good suggestions too.

If you want a bow soon, the Black Swans and Morrisons would be good choices. I'm not sure of the wait on the Centaurs, but the wait on a Shrew is running about 14 months.

I assume you have also considered the A&H ACS bow. It is an excellent bow and is more of a well made production bow than a custom bow. I expect you could get one shipped to you immediately.

Part of your consideration on what bow you choose should be the length (some bows work well in short lengths, others don't), overall style, and how it feels to you. It's always nice to try before you buy, if possible.

Widow PL has a fairly short wait.  Another to throw out there.

I'm only interested in "D" shape longbows myself when I'm not shooting my recurves. This Border is the Griffon GL. Glassless, carbon and wood only. It's not cut to center and you can still shoot it in that longbow tourney that Pete Ward shoots in.

I like the Morrison Carbon Foam Dakota and Arapaho limbs with my Shawnee.  But, as stated there are a lot of good choices out there.  As Allen stated above, the new Shrew w/carbon foam limbs is a different critter compared to the boo or actionwood limbed Shrews.

I don't have the experience with the Black Swans like David does, but they are intruiging to say the least.  The ACS-CX is another that would be a great choice, even though they are not foam cored the unique design lightens the limb with the actionboo core.

Lots of great bows out there, and I'm sure I've left out more than a few, but we can't tell you what will work for you.

i see no imperative need for carbon limbed hunting stick bows.

Awww c'mon Rob, there's no imperative need for a car to go faster than the speed limit....but where's the fun in "imperative need"    :bigsmyl:

i hear ya, jc  :D

i had a phone chat with earl hoyt less than a year before he died, talking about carbon limbed stick bows (he offered that as an option).  the essence of his take was that the environmental stabilizing effect of adding carbon (or syntactic foam or ceramics, etc) to limbs was a good one for fita olympic archers and the benefits to a hunting archer was near nil.  i trust what uncle earl told me.

Earl originally thought that the ILF system wouldn't work when he saw it at the Pan Am Games. Obviously he had a change of heart.    :)

I'll second that JC, Common Rob, uncle Earl was just old fashioned in his thinkin. One perative need is, that you have lots of sponsors sellin the stuff. We gotta keep all these guys in business. I like my carbon/foam. In fact in past month I have sold all my non carbon/foam limbs and ordered more carbon/foam. Heck, I even sold all my wood risers and ordered more all phenolic no wood. A switch from pretty to pure functional/performance. I got sick of refinishing bows after dinging/falling/dropping them. Now I just get out some wet and dry and spit on mess and sand till it goes away!
