Anyone ever had a bow riser made out of persimmon, locust or pecan?..thinking of my next project, just wondering how they would look in a bow riser?  or limbs for that matter

Joe... I've used honey locust as laminations and riser wood. Surprisingly pretty!!!

Got a nice chunk of persimmon that's waiting to go into a bow... very contrasty light and dark wood. Very dense as well.

I have been trying to find persimmon for the last six months!
Please tell me where I can get a chunk!

Persimmon is also known as Texas Ebony down here. Great looking wood and dense.
"Then Peter said unto them. Repent all of you and be baptized in the Name of Jesus for remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Charlie, do you stain your persimmon? I'm thinking of using it also as a riser wood with Black locust limbs. i may make a two tone riser with persimmon and pecan with locust limbs with maybe persimmon fade outs...I'm going to try to make a recurve from woods i cut from my camp....thanks

centerpunch...hold that thought...all my persimmon is off the stump..i'm letting it air dry i cut in slabs with chain saw...what diminsions you need? i may can help you....Punch you must need some bad since you registered in 2006 and this is your first post!!! i feel your urgency!! hope i can help

Joe... just looking at the persimmon, I doubt I'd want to stain it. Very pretty in it's natural state...creamy tan with lots of black "blotches".

I don't know how the pecan would look... might be a bit plain.

I think the locust and persimmon would make a killer riser with locust limbs.... I'm assuming you have honey locust. I don't have a clue about black locust.

The honey locust I have is almost pink in the raw, but sanded and under finish it is more yellow with a slight reddish cast. Don't know what light does to it over time.

Andrew... yep, you've seen that block before. Maybe you could post a pic of "Obit" for Joey.

I cut some persimmon and cherry about 10 years ago and put it up. Now my appetite is wetted to see what it looks like. Hope that the bores haven't been busy with it.

Ron, if it's okay, and you still haven't found any, then I might find a chunk to share.
