Great Plains makes some nice bows.  H

Never shot a Marriah, so can't help you there. Hard to find a bad bow nowadays between successful bowyers...

I have shot all the bow models that Great Plains offers and they are top notch. Fit and finish is among the best. Great customer service and quick turnaround. You can't go wrong with a Great Plains.

You would need to check them both out and see which one fits you best. Most all bows have a different grip and what is comfortable for one guy might not work for you. Call and talk to the bowyer and let him help you out or find one in the classifieds and try your luck. Nobody can tell you what one is best for you except you.

thanks guys and gregk thanks tht is very helpful

Well, I own four Marriah recurves...one of them is a Williwaw.  These bows are really super shooters...excellent cast, nice in the hand, and smooth to draw.  Plus, Ric Anderson is an honest bowyer and a great guy who will endeavor to build you the bow you want.
I have never shot a GP, so can't comment about these bows.

Good luck with your decision!

I shoot a GP sr Swift and I love it.  I've owned another one and I shoot super as well but I've never shot a Marriah so all I can say is you don't se very many of either listed on the classifieds so that should tell you something.

Hey, I have two GPs, Blacktail, Zipper, Assenheimer, Bob Lee. I have a Habu and Black Widow coming. So, I will compare the GP with arguably the best bows on the market.

What I can tell you is Great Plains is right in there with the best. I love the beauty and the stoutness of a Great Plains. Get the thick grip, I don't know what it is called but I have small hands and it feels great. At first I thought the grip would be to big but it is just perfect.

Have shot several Great Plains and own a takedown longbow. Great Bows!!!

A good friend has a Marriah takedown recurve. Super bows also. Ric is truly one of the good guys, besides being an excellent, knowledgable bowyer

I have a SR Swift [ actually Bill Forman's, former personal Black Hawk ], a 3 pc L/B, and have had both a B model 1 piece RC and a 1 pc. Great Plains LB.

Last week I traded Terry Riley out of the beautiful Williwaw he had here in the "Classifides".  I called Rick Anderson  [ the bowyer] with some question's about suggested brace height and initial set up,,,, man, what a great guy. He was very happy to answer all of my question's and our conversation just went on and on.... I would love to meet him in person sometime on one of my  "HD" Sturgis trips....

Both Bowyer's are "TOP NOTCH" Guys.. who produce beautiful works of art.  I think Rick does all of his own work and you can sure see it in his Quality, finish, and design.

Bill Foreman, and the boy's are also first rate and no-body has veneers like the ones Bill has.  His bow's are super performers with wonderful grips...

Buy ONE OR TWO OF EACH and have the best of both!    :wavey:

I have never owned a Marriah but have owned five Great Plains recurves. All have been great bows and I still have three.

DngrsDan

Can't really advise you on this, haven't really owned a bunch of different bows to make comparisons. I own a GP 66" TD LB 50# @ my 29" draw and am really happy with it. Smooth draw-no stacking, fires the arrow with authority, no hand shock. Good grip, but I customized mine to fit my hand better because I wanted to.
Like you've been told already - it's really up to what YOU are looking for and feel comfortable with. And you've gotten good recommendations from more knowledgeable and experienced owners on both bowyers.
Like ya've been told BUY BOTH!    :biglaugh:
