2-13-10 - Just a few of the stumps I shot today on my mountain!

Starting out of the basement...

Looking down the hill and surveying the "hunting" grounds...

Spotted a mean looking stump at 15 steps!

As I retrieve my arrow I spot another down hill at 25 steps... I put 3 arrows in this one! Best group of the week!

Now I sit and wait, surveying up the hill side for more intruders...

And down...

My rose oak at the ready!

Ive spotted one now, 32 steps... MISSED!! But I have spotted my errant arrow about 30 steps beyond my target in the snow bank...

Zoomed in...

On my way up the hill I hit this one at 20 steps, just barely slid it by the tree next to it!...

Shot right through this one!...

Now for the greatest stumping shot of my career! 27 steps, kneeling and shooting down hill...

henry, yes it is. good eye! I have a group of 9 does (my avatar is one of them early this year while pregnant) that feed in my yard everyday. One of the young ones was bedded down there as I made my way around the mountain today. They all were watching me from about 60 yards at one point   :)

thanks for looking!

That's time well spent right there. Nice shootin.
May be mistaken, but are those deer beds next to the oak tree you killed in the video? Looks like a small bench on the hillside, good place for'em to bed if they aint.

Thanks for sharing!
That warmed my cockles as I wait for the snow to fall back to acceptable depths for stumping.
Shouldn't be to long now, as it has started to rise above freezing point.

Caleb,

Thanks for sharing the pictures and outstanding narrative.  It looks like you tamed the stumps for an afternoon.

I appreciate the humor! And, nice shooting.

great post.  I also have the luxury of roving around the back yard slaying unsuspecting stumps.  I don't quite have such homebody deer, but they do transit quite often.  Shot my first trad deer this year within sight of the house.  Good luck with the turkeys, looking forward to those pics.

Very good stuff, if I move back to Chickamauga, I'll have to look you up!
