Seems to me that this year has been on the down swing, small game seems to do that.  And there have not been very many bunnies around.  Anyone out there around the campfire having better luck?  I got one in the beginning of the season, actually the second day, and those first 4 days were awesome like last year and then poof they were gone.  Let me hear some success stories!!!  And I will dig out my picture!!!

alright found it, got him at about -10 yards, lol.  It was close, I hunt brushy thickets, kinda got it on film too, but when i shot my limb hit the tripod so it shakes, but o well.  The real prize is the meat.  And I can not complain about that one, he is the biggest rabbit I have ever gotten, I suppose it makes up for not being able to get anymore yet???

No luck here. I've been 3 or 4 times and ain't even seen a bunny. Course, I prolly couldn't hit one if I did, but at least I could lose an arrow.

Went out with a buddy today, saw LOTS of bobcat tracks...not a rabbit track......so we ended up stumpin...I shot a P&Y hemlock stump!

I've been seeing them just not hitting them! I have 4 shots off this year, all misses! Good news, thats 4 more misses than last year!    

I cant beleive that the population just dropped like that.  Last year I would have a shot everyday???  This year I will be lucky to see a rabbit!

They do seem to be in the low of a population cycle right now. We have a lot of coyotes, hawks and owls that keep them thinned out pretty good also.

On our bunny hunt last Sunday, I would estimate that we kicked up about 14 different bunnies. Only one was hit and it got into a junk pile and we couldn't recover it. The snow has a hard layer on it right now and when you kick one up they are really moving.

Joe, you should have been with us last weekend.....you could have added a few more misses to that total.  
 

Tons of coyote and fox tracks around here - plenty of raptors too. I've seen a few bunnies this year (when I was deer hunting) but none since deer season finished up.

Hawks and yotes seem to be hitting the bunnys pretty hard around here but seen a few no shots but going to keep trying.

Went last Saturday, jumped probably.. 5 or 6  missed 1. I'm gonna try again tomarrow, hopefully we'll have a little better luck. It don't matter though, we alway's have fun! All the one's we jumped wre really tight to cover, pratically had to step on them. There sure are alot of hawks around, house cats and coyote's sure lay the hammer on them to!! Jason

hmmm house cats, I picked up trapping this year, because of the low population, and I thought it was due to a high pop of yotes or foxes, both of which I had seen sign, but even though I had some really close calls with foxes this season.  No dice, made me rethink my theory.  I caught 3 wild cats though.  I say wild, they have no owner.  They are wild, they live in different abandoned groundhog holes.  fortunatly none were injured.  But makes me wonder how much of a hurtin they are laying down.  Always next year I suppose, I think the snow will ruin the rest of my season.  I cant really get out and they are nowhere to be found, I dont think the wabbits like being burried under 4 foot of snow???  On the up side the grouse are back on the incline out west from me!  Actually saw some this year, lol.  They are still really smart(you northern guys are prolly laughin at that), and they are stupid up north, but these ones down south here in MD will spot you better than the turkeys will!

Few rabbits up here this year. I have been running my young beagle Daisy regularly....last night we did not even cut a track.

Bottom of a down cycle around here.  I can hunt squirrels until the end of Feb., it has to stop raining sooner or later.  Bill

This year in AK has been slow.  Last year our group  took over 180 snowshoes w/.22's.  When they're thick it's unbelieveable.

In the Catskill area of NY, they seem to have been down for awhile, but the grouse populations been the best I've seen in over 20 years. (missed 3 while walking to my stand)

We may not have as many as some places but there's enough to wear this fat boy out.

I hunted them today and I can't honestly tell you how many I was after or if it was just one rabbit running me to death..lol There was somewhere between 1 and 5. All I know for sure is it was everywhere I wasn't. I couldn't get a shot on the darn thing or things..lol

I could be wrong but I think hunting them alone with a bow is about as hard as any hunting I've ever tried. I've had shots(all running) this season and have yet to connect.
