Get an either sex/species tag in ND, then go out and spend a week or so doing spot & stalk in the Badlands in September.

BTW, pick up a goat tag too.  You'll find them up on top of the Breaks, and they rut in Sept.

Before you plan North or South Dakota, wait to see how bad the winter kill is.  They got clobbered badly last year and this one isn't looking any better.

Badlands is a fun place to spot and stalk in September! Go fot it!!!

For mule bucks or mulies & goats I personally like to hunt north of I-94 between the North & South Units of TR Park.  If you're more interested in goats, generally speaking I would  suggest south of I-94, from Amidon & south from there...

One thing about ND as opposed to Montana or Wyoming; you won't see the sheer numbers of goats, but proportionately you will see a lot of P&Y bucks...

3-4 point mule bucks in the 24"-26" range are pretty common, with the occasional 26" plus to raise your blood pressure...

Don't discount the whitetails out there.  three of the five biggest whitetails I've seen on the hoof in my roughly 30 years in ND, I saw out in the Badlands...

For mulie in North Dakota do out of state have to apply by March 1st?

NDGF is issuing around 1300 either species/sex NR bow licenses this year and starts on March 1st, so you need your app in before then. Most years I don't think they issue all available, though.

You might want to check out Utah too?  They have otc tags for archery.  I went a few years ago, saw plenty of deer, could have shot a few, just didn't see a buck that i wanted.  Had a great time.

Sam, UT is draw with any left over tags sold on first come first serve. Last year they sold out in 2 hours. If you want to hunt UT then put in, otherwise you will most likely miss out. If anyone does put in and draws, and needs a jump off spot, let me know.

All the Mulies died this year due to the 10' of snow we got in the Badlands. Try South Dakota  :D

My advice is get the best binos you can afford and use them ALOT!

There is several states in the west that have lots of public ground. Utah is draw only but if you put in you should draw. My advice would be after you pick a state call some state biologist,they can be very helpfull. Find some local taxidermist give them a call. They might not give you their secert spot but a general guilde line is good enough. Then look at lots of maps and arial photos. If you come to Utah I think you chances on a good hunt are very good. Colorado is going to an either sex tag for most units. application dead line is april 6th. the population is up almost every where there and they have a 4 points or better restriction on bucks I think if you go to thier web site you will get more info. I do know the out of state tag went up to 350 or there abouts.

Wyoming has some great oppertunities. I go every year now, I found a ranch by calling game and fish and ask them for their ranchers list for a particular region. my region B is usually 100% draw for non-residents. let me know if you need any assistance.
