Anybody use over a 650gr. arrow for whitetails???????

Yup... well, that is, I will be in the Fall.  I'm shooting FMJ Dangerous Game 300's with 300 grs. up front.  Weigh in is 740ish.

he he... I will be sure to check back on this one.  My current whitetail setup is 360 grain..

I may bump up my tip weight to a 125 and then I will be shooting 385 grain

I used 750-780 grain ash shafts on antleope about the size of a whitetail maybe a little smaller with pass tru affect, and have used 680-750 grain on mule deer slightly larger than whitetail with pass tru as well. I hunt with primitive bow and keep my shots close, 25yds or less.

I shoot just under that 625 to 650 on hogs, get good results.

I'm using 709gr and 713 gr out of bows 50-55# at my draw length and 568 gr out of a couple 45# bows.

I shot an antelope buck last fall.The arrow shattered the heavy part of the humerus,just above the elbow,passed through the heart and out through the opposite shoulder,out of a 53# bow.That wouldn't have happened with some of the lighter arrow setups I used to use.

Not quite 650g,,610 is what I shoot from My 50lb recurve for all big game.
I don't sert out to shoot a heavy arrow as such,it's just what they tune best at and I'm happy with the results.

No - 390 to 450 from 53# DAS recurve.

I shoot 634gr woodies.  Just shy of 650, but so close I can taste it.

I've never hunted with a bow, or for an animal, that required a 650-grain arrow (bowfishing excluded).

Whump Sez; yep--going back to that next season. I shot 520gn total arrow weight with carbons this season out of a 54lb R&D long bow. Even though I took 3 deer I was not impressed with the penetration. The first deer shot quartering away  got a complete pass thru going in the rib cage and out behind the shoulder on the off side [18yd shot]The 6pt buck was a quartering 2 shot that hit shoulder muscle and I only got one lung and about 12" of penetration [10yd shot] The last doe was 10ft from the base of the tree going thru back muscle taking out one lung and the heart. I found all 3 but when I shot heavy shafting I got complete pass thrus out the bottom on the same kind of shots I took this year with the lighter arrows .  My FOC on the carbons was about 20% with 210gn up front but the penetration quickly lost momentum going thru muscle resulting in a top hole only. I am staying with the carbon but added weight tubes to get my arrow eight up to 660gn. I believe that the proof is in the shot on live animals so I have made changes and will re-tune for next season. Hunt safe

I've got some old Sweetland Forgewood arrows with 160gr broadheads that are 800gr. that will work on anything on 4 legs.  Just need to adjust my tradgetory a bit. They drop 4" more at 20yds. than the 585gr Surewoods I usually shoot.
