Hello folks,

I am considering a Cari-Bow Peregrine. It will have a draw-weight of 45 lbs.
I saw on Abe's site that carbon/veneer limbs are an option.

I know I should ask this to the bowyer himself (and I will), but it is always so nice to read your opinions! And different inputs are always something to learn from....
Do you think a carbon layer in the limbs will add much to this bow?

Any input will be appreciated!

From what I recall....there wasn't much of a performance difference at all from the veneers. Also, foam vs. bamboo core in his bows also did not show performance differences other than draw cycle. My profile pic is his "wolverine" with carbon veneers and bamboo core. Gotta go with his beaver wrapped handle! You'll love your bow!

Thank you manitoba! Do you have more pics? What are the advantages of this beaver wrapped handle? I am torn between a "naked" riser, showing the diamand shape (which I will choose I think)  or the beaver wrap.... I don't like the white stitching though....

i cant help you with the carbon question. but i can say that you can expect a high performing longbow thats for sure. i had a peregrine and it was one of the fastest longbows i have shot!! if you add carbon to it it may just ignite a wood shaft upon release.    :eek:

Here's my Peregrine. i will try to post some pics of my Wolverine.  The Peregrine is my preference, and i agree with Ryan about the wrapped handle.

 and here is the Wolverine...the Peregrine is 62 inches and the Wolverine is 58 inches.  i shoot the 62 inch better & i like the grip better on the Peregrine.  Abe does really good work!

I love that veneer of the first pic! Is that bubinga? If you order veneer, do you get it on the front- and back side of the limbs? Or is it front side only?
Could you explain why you like the wrapped handle so much?

Abe Penner is one of the finest bow craftsmen out there. I had a 64" Fleatherhorn if it would have been a couple of inches longer I would never have sold it.

I also have a Peregrine---it has no wrap on the handle and I find that my hands sweat and then slide easier---however on my Silver Foxes I have a handle wrap and find it much better.I now have a slip on rubber tube on my Peregrine--which also is warmer in the Winter,and makes for a more positive grip.-------Elf.

Abes craftsmanship is unbelievable, more than just a bow, they are truly works of art. Handled the Peregrine last year at Kzoo, didn't shoot it for fear of instantly handing over my credit card.

Hey Ad...i honestly don't remember what wood combo's i had Abe to use.  i will try to find my original order.  I think the beaver grip sets the bow off, and (to me) helps me grip the bow better than a slick grip would.  i don't think the carbon would add any advantages.  The Peregrine is a fast bow without it.
I would recommend contacting Abe either via phone or email him.  He has made me some beautiful bows thru the years, and he will be more than happy to talk you thru the process and options.  Hope this helps a little.  As for the white stitching ask him to dye it black!    

Hey Ad...those are Cape Buffalo overlays.  i may have posted the pics last year on a previous thread about Abe's bows..as far as being water resistant, no they aren't but they don't soak up "much" water.   i just got back from a hunting trip in Alabama.  The first afternoon ended up in a torrential downpour...no problems with the grip.

It absorbed some water yes...dried very quickly, not like normal leather.

I prefer the bows with out a handle wrap. I like the smaller feel of just the wood.

I have owned 2 of Abe's Featherhorn LBs, that I have sold. I now have 2 Silver Fox LB's and love them. Neither have carbon in the limbs, and doubt I would order it if I was to buy a new bow. I just dont think it is going to improve the shootability of the bow. I am not someone who worries about speed though. I would much rather have a quiet bow that is smooth and forgiving.
