well its raining again here in "sunny california" and i just got my hay bails so i can shoot in my yard. Now the guy at BPS (before i returned that bow) said never let my bow get wet. but i notice that some of the trad shoots say "rain or shine" so is it ok to shoot in the rain? will i hurt my bow or arrows by doing this? the arrows are aluminum

I use food grade silicone on my arrows and feathers for the rain it dries fast and has no smell.

I think im gonna have to start going with a Grin and Nod technique when at BPS from now on so far all the info they have givin me has been to put it nicely "debateable" i do like using their indoor range at lunch though  ;)

My daughter and I braved the weird weather we had here in Michigan over the weekend. It was the opening traditional shoot at our club--It's called the Polar Bear shoot. It should of been called the Spring bear hunt because it was 47 degrees and raining. We put on our rubber boots and trudged through the course. We had a blast! Wood arrows, a vintage bear youth bow(2nd generation hand me down) and my John Maus Lone Wolf Autumn Storm. Good times  :)

Put on a wool pull over and a wide brimmed hat and go shoot. If getting your bow wet worries you, just put a coat of turtle wax or other wax on it after it dries out.

"never let my bow get wet" - huh?  Is there something unusual about your bow - backed with sinew or something?

I have to agree with that. In fact I don't think I've ever even heard of a bow that couldn't be shot in the rain.

nope nothing unusual about it, this is jsut what the BPS guy told me after i purchased a bow from there (i ended up taking it back and buying DesertDude's bushmaster) taking advice from those guys can be dangerous, im glad there is a forum like this or i would b totally lost

Shoot in the rain and hunt in the rain. After all your feather dressings wash off steam them. I've tried everything and after a long time it always washed off. Just wipe your bow off and keep any chips sealed.

I agree with Greaseman, but don't be too hard on the boys at BPS, they were probably selling boat paddles last week.

Shoot it.

In NZ,if you don't shoot in the rain,,you don't shoot at all.
Winning or losing is not the important thing,,the important thing is how well you played the game.

M60gunner,it was great shooting with you guys too, the weatlh of knowledge i recieved was priceless. I will definately be back i sent in my application yesterday so y'all should have it soon, i love that range. the hills where just fine, i seem to break down mentally before i do physically, i need to work on keeping my concentration up. I had the same problem years ago when learing to play baseball, my dad would say "quite thinking and just do it your brain gets you into to much trouble"
