I have a combination disk and belt sander and was thinking of buying one of Tim's Taper tool for Barrel tapering shafts from Wes Wallace. I already have a woodchuck for my point and nock, but if Tim's works good for that, I might get that also so that I can have everything in one.

Has anyone used either before and how good do they work?

Thanks, Rick

Rick,
I have one of Tim's taper tools for my disk sander. It takes a little bit of tinkering to get tour taper set right, but once you have it set it works great. You will waste a few shafts getting it set up so be sure you have a few extra shafts to use for fine tuning the taper.

Rick I have the Tim's Taper Tool and realy like it. I bought a 4X36 sander to mount it on which frees up my other sander for other things. I don't do barrel tapers, just point, nock, and 10" rear taper. I can hook my sander up to a vacumb to keep the dust down. I have been very happy with mine.

Pick up a hand full of dowel rods at the hardware store for setup, this will help save those shafts!

I also have both of Tims jigs....The barrel taper jig works great!  I think I'm going to pick up 1 or 2 more so once they are set I can leave'm!

I dont use the point end as I shoulder mine with my woodchuck, kind of a touchy setup so I have one and leave it.  I do nocks on the tims jig and it also works fine.
