Hey folks I have decided I would like to get a used takedown longbow. I have mostly shot recurves because I prefer the mass weight and grip on the takedown recurves I have owned together with the fact that the shelf is generally cut to center. So basically what I am looking for is a TD longbow that has a riser, handle and shelf like those I am familiar with. My favorite bow in the last couple years has been my Big East which has a thumbrest on the riser which I really like. With this in mind I thought maybe I would like a Fedora Extreme since the thumbrest on the Big East is based on Mike Fedora Sr.'s original design. I have posted on the classifieds for a used Fedora Extreme but so far no one has one for sale with the specs I am looking for. I would probably want a 64" bow but would also consider a 62" depending. I am looking for something in the 60lbs range at my draw length of 29 1/2".  I would appreciate any input from anyone who has a Fedora Extreme or suggestions on other bows that would fit my criteria. The number one reason I want to go to longbow limbs is to have a quieter bow. While my recurves are not bad with all the silencing materials installed they still are not as quiet as the lonbows I have shot. Thanks for any input you can give me.

To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Firefly- my buddy has 2-3 of the now, very quick, quiet and no handshock...one of the best 3 pc. longbows Ive shot..
Another one to look at is Vermillion River Bows by Bill Pleiger(sp)- me and the buddy who owns the Fireflys got to shoot the 1st one he made and it was the best shooting 3 pc. Ive ever shot period, recurve style grip, very fast, dead quiet and even deader in the hand..
Both of these bows are awesome...

Dan, I'm redoing a Brack Quest for a guy right now and the grip/ handle on that is fairly large like the Fedora.  I know that Brack also makes a 3 piece T/D called a Non-Typical. Not sure if the grip is the same size as the Quest I have here, but might be another bow to keep an eye out for, although I sure don't see them for sale often.

Hard to beat the A&H ACS CX longbow - They are fast - quiet - light...plus I dropped about 8 lbs of draw weight because they are so efficient pm sent

Ol Man

Love my ACS-CX and my Morrison Shawnee.  Quick, quiet and sweet to shoot.
Getting older I tend to talk to myself but, at least I know that I am as smart as the one I am talking to.

there are any number of dozens of 3pc t/d longbows that *might* work for ya.

first and foremost are the ergonomics of the grip - if the grip don't fit you must acquit.  :D

is the riser sight window big enuf for ya?

the holding weight at yer draw length?

the overall bow length for your hunting venue(s)?

will the craftsmanship and materials work for ya?

see how the above criteria matches up with what's offered on the classifieds, then move on to custom bowyers.

I have shot recurves for more years than I care to admit.   Last year at the Compton shoot I shot a 66" 3 piece Foley and loved it and bought it on the spot.   Jim

Bowtie

Dan, another bow to consider is a Leon Stewart Slammer, 3-pc.  Beautiful workmanship, has a locator grip (same grip every time you shoot).  Leon is from Southeast Pennsylvania.  Check out his website...   www.stewartsarchery.com
One other note:  You mention that your recurves are noisy.  My Assenheimer recurve with only string silencers is very, very quiet, another fantastic bow.  Wish you the best with your decision.

I recommend an A&H ACS CX with the 16" RC riser.  The 16" riser with the 62" limbs will give you a 64" bow.  Give them a look, you won't be disappointed.
